Works great!
Was a little hesitant to buy this after reading a bunch of reviews. Seemed to be pretty hit or miss. But, I'm an engineer and figured that if I did have trouble, I could come up with some fixes for it to make it work well enough. Turned out that I haven't needed to do anything yet. Works great and fits nicely too. Only downside is that the bar with the nut doesn't attach in anyway to the upper assembly. This is only ever a problem when installing, uninstalling and storing situations. If you leave it all the time in the car, never any problems. I prefer to put it in when we want to use it and take it out afterwards. No installation problems and no issues with the nut being loose. I have no idea why this is a problem with anybody. It's a simple threaded rod with a wing nut. If you tighten it enough, the upper bar exerts its force on the nut and the nut won't move. It doesn't even require a whole lot of tightening (I wanted to be careful not to tighten it too much and damage the car ceiling fabric). Again, no problem and working great!

Maybe other people put it together wrong?
I hardly ever write reviews, but felt that I should because I almost didn't purchase this because there was some negative feedback that gave me pause. I purchased the gate and had to purchase the extension as well to fit my Honda Element. It went together easy and quick, and is perfect. Durable, strong, and looks sleek in the SUV. I was tugging on it with all I had and it did not budge. Maybe others didn't tighten it well?I can see the issue with the horizontal bars being able to be pushed in. They slide in and out to fit any width of car, but there is nothing there to tighten them into place once you get them where you want them, (you are able to adjust them to where you want vertically, and there are screws to tighten them into place for that). This will not be an issue since my car is built the way it is.FOr $50 (with extension purchase) you can't go wrong.

Not at all was advertised or expected to be! Buyers beware
I'm sorry I was so excited for this product for a cross country trip with my dogs but this product did not live up to my expectations nor even its own practicality, The best way I can put it is that the concept looks better on paper then in real use. The biggest flaw is the locking mechanism is a clamp on the bars that smushes down on the bar to keep it in place, not only does it not "lock" properly it damages the bars from future use and makes future adjustments impossible. On top of that note another fail is in the bars that hold it into place, they're not sturdy at all! My dogs don't even try to climb through them they just like stand up turn around brush into it and the whole system collapses on its self. I had to tie the bars down with duct tape to my rear head rests just to maintain its form! And even then it wanted to fall apart faster then IKEA products. I can forgive the fact that the length of the bars only go so far but when it can not cover the distance of a small jeep thats a failure to take into consideration of actual vehicle sizes. I wanted to save money on other products based on this concept and this was the literal definition of you get what you pay for and don't make my mistake spend the extra $20-$30 bucks on a better product.

Good price, good product, could use minor improvements
This is a very nice unit for the price point. 10 minute install.Quality construction, although a bit wobbly on the extendable sides that meet the rear side windows. You must make sure the the horizontal bars that extend out completely touch the windows. There is no way of tightening the left and right adjustment once you have found a position. The downside to this is that it can get a bit noisy in the back if you keep it up regularly. This means that you must adjust it periodically to touch them to the windows. The vertical adjustment was simple and straightforward, you screw the feet out, up and downwards to touch the roof and the floor. Make sure that you tighten it up really well. Keep going and going until you have no strength left. It will leave marks in the foam padding on the roof of your SUV, but I believe that to be the case with any barrier like this.My 50lb Pit Bull Terrier managed to pull it down a couple times just from trying to visit the back seat with his head - no extra trying to pull it down on his part. This product does need regular vertical adjustment with regular usage. Also, there are gaps present between the back bench seat and the rear passenger doors in a late model Rav4, so keeping small dogs back there is fine to prevent jumping, but there is no protection from them trying to get through that decent sized gap. This would not be the barrier's fault, just a side comment for those with small dogs.Suggested improvementsIncorporate the ability to tighten the horizontal pieces that meet the windows. I would pay a built in extra $5 to have this available. It would make a world of difference in the solidity of the already quality construction, and this is what keeps this barrier from a 5 star rating.ValueFor the price, I would buy it again - for a little more money, I would find one that is a little heavier duty for my personal needs.I hope this helps!Used for several months now and still using.

Cheap and no customer service
Did the trick for a few weeks. Kept having to re adjust the tension rods so it would stay in place. Rattled on bumpy roads. I would suggest investing in a higher quality gate. My one tension rod broke after only 4 months of having it in my SUV. No luck with contacting seller for replacement part.

OK
You get what you pay for. The product does an OK job of providing a barrier. But its not a product I'd suggest as a permanent sturdy barrier, and its priced accordingly. The product relies on wedging itself between floor and ceiling, and if either is flexible it may not secure itself that well. Some competing products in Europe appear to be much more sturdy, but at a higher price. Unfortunately they don't make a product for my model of vehicle. I'll continue to use the product and it will function OK. It all depends what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay.

Disappointed
Very flimsy, came loose and always falling apart - I threw it in the garbage but another kind that I am much happier with
