The Accutest® Rapid Mono test is an immunoassay for the Qualitative Detection of Infectious Mononucleosis Heterophile Antibodies in Whole Blood, Serum or Plasma. What is Mononucleosis? Mononucleosis or "mono" is quite common especially in teens and young adults. Symptoms in children are mild and are often unnoticed. It is not common in older people as they already have immunity to this virus. The people suffering from this illness get severe sore throat, high fever and swollen tonsils and lymph nodes within 4-6 weeks after being exposed to the virus. They feel fatigued and weak for extended periods - often lasting weeks or months. It does eventually go away on its own provided proper care is observed. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is responsible for Mono. It is nicknamed "the kissing disease" because one can get it through kissing or contact with saliva, sharing eating utensils, drinking glasses or toothbrushes. It can also be spread through tears or mucus from the throat and nose. Blood Terminologies The AccuTest® Mononucleosis Rapid Test can use blood in any of these 3 forms: Whole blood - is human blood as laymen know it - in the form that we normally see in a standard blood extraction, collected and left unmodified. Plasma - is that pale yellow liquid component of human blood that we sometimes see in blood donation bags. Serum - is also called "pure blood" or plasma without clotting factors. Test Country offers AccuTest® Mononucleosis Rapid Test, a leading brand of point-of-care medical diagnostic products for use in hospitals, clinics, physician's offices and diagnostic laboratories. This product is FDA cleared and CLIA-Waived.
