Exactly what I want out of a Grade A Amber Rich!
Grade A this, Grade A that! The maple syrup business really doesn't brand itself very clearly, does it? Thankfully, I've done the homework for you. If you already know your syrup, skip to the end of my review.Maple syrup is graded not on "quality" or the way it is made or how much maple sugar is in it, but rather on the color, which corresponds to when the syrup was extracted and the sort of flavor you can expect from it. Maple syrup is divided into 4 Grade A varieties; the scale was changed a few years back, so all syrups are classified as "A" now, because the former scale was very misleading. Here's the scale, by my own measure:Grade A Golden: the earliest and palest of syrups, this has a very delicate flavor, and is rather light on the maple taste. If you're looking for an exceptionally light touch of maple, Golden is certainly an option, but personally, I don't prefer it.Grade A Amber: This is the syrup I'm reviewing right here. These syrups are slightly darker in color than Golden and extracted relatively early in a season, giving it a more definitive, yet soft maple flavor, as well as lovely hints of vanilla, thanks to the natural vanillin content of the syrup. I adore this over waffles, but it's also critical to my maple ice cream (a smash-hit whenever I serve it, if I may say so) and a few other baking projects. As someone who loves vanilla and a sweet taste of maple, this is my go-to.Grade A Dark: This is probably the syrup most are familiar with; it's darker still, and has a strong maple flavor. The vanilla notes we expect from the Amber are nearly completely obscured by the richness of the maple, giving it that sturdy, no-nonsense sweetness that you'd expect of a good-quality diner maple syrup.Grade A Very Dark/Strong: This is typically exclusively used by serious chefs; it's the last syrup of the season and the color is exceptionally dark, with the maple flavor becoming almost unwieldy for a mere bed of pancakes. I've heard a friend who uses this in place of molasses in some recipes, but I'd steer clear of serving this with breakfast unless you're looking for the most intense flavor there is.----That bit of syrup knowledge laid down, I have to say that Butternut Mountain Farm is my preference for maple syrup these days. This Grade A Amber Rich is so versatile; I love it over waffles, where it provides a nice, maple sweetness that isn't overpowering or too rich. It's fantastic in baking, and when I'm not making maple-flavored ice cream with it, I'm drizzling a little on top of a simpler vanilla with some walnuts for a tasty treat. I think the quality is superb and I highly recommend it!

Expired! 5 years old
Not sure how long maple syrup lasts but ordered in December 2018 and shows as expired in 2013! Loved this syrup in the past but I think 5 years is a bit long. Unless it's like wine...

MOLD!
We ordered this and just opened it to use it. MOLD everywhere inside! Seemed to be sealed well, hopefully the whole batch wasn’t like this. Very disappointed since this stuff isn’t cheap!

Two Big Thimbs Up! Yum!
My package arrived last night and I took a small taste of the syrup from the bottle cap. My eyes widened in shock because it was so good. But, the real test was this morning: this maple syrup over blueberry pancakes. I took my first bit and literally said, "Oh, my God!"I am a food snob. I'd choke down dry pancakes or French toast before I'd eat "pancake syrup". I only eat pure maple syrup. This is, hands down, the best I've ever tasted in my life. If I ran a restaurant, this is what I would serve. It's also a wonderful price for the size.I wish I could rate this ten stars.

Delicious, 100% maple syrup
We were looking for maple syrup which would not kill our wallet at the same time. This syrup came in a plastic container fashioned like a jug. We opened it and tried it. It's delicious and it's what you expect from a quality maple syrup producer. To keep ours "fresh" and from spoiling, we store ours in the freezer. Yes, you read that right. Quality maple syrup will NOT freeze in a regular freezer. It may become somewhat thicker but will not freeze. If it does, then you have a product which more than likely containes water. True, 100% maple syrup, like this one, does not have any water in it.PROS: Quality, delicious, 100% maple syrupCONS: None noted

Pour out this Maple Syrup into a transparent glass container.
I purchase this product, because it was very inexpensive!!! I reorder with a 3 month subscription, which I am about to cancel. I am so Thankful to Almighty GOD!!! Wisdom I pour out the maple syrup out of the plastic jug into a glass jars, that I washed out from prior maple syrup. This morning I decided to reward my body with some good healthy lifestyle rewards. I had my tea moringa with organic ginger tea combine and the maple syrup is rancid!!!! What Happened???? I am not prepared to go totally sugar free, so what can I do. If you are going to purchase this item please pour it out in a glass or transparent container and refrigerate it. I cannot begin to imagine if I had just pour this into my tea while it was in the plastic jug. I received a bad batch. 🤦♀️

I am supposed to write what I like most about this syrup
I am supposed to write what I like most about this syrup. I guess that would be that it was packed in a bottle instead of coming bulk and lose. Other than that I found it very thin and watery, even chilled and it did not have any maple flavor at all. In fact the syrup tasted like burnt sugar water. I have bought maple syrup from several other brands and this was the least enjoyable of the 12 different dark amber varieties I have used.

AVOID
We've been using this syrup for a long time. Never again though. Purchased late Jan 2019. It sat in the pantry for a bit. We've been using it until we noticed the best by date was 2014. 5 years old!! For comparison syrup purchased in the food store has a date of 2022. Disgusted.

Aroma, texture and flavor are priceless!
I love Vermont maple syrup for breakfast, specially on crêpes filled with berries and some warm coffee to boost the day. Having maple syrup on the table reminds me to the Vermont sugarhouses in spring. Now living in Europe it is not a problem to have one of this delicacies in the kitchen. The delivery of the product was fast and packed with care, it wasn't only that, the packing chips made of corn (as seen in the picture) are 100% environmentally friendly, that means they can be composted. Details like this, make the purchase a nice experience. Thank you! I will be happy to order again.
