Very accurate
Just don't sneeze and bite down on it while you're taking your temperature or you will break it. I know from experience.

Stopped working.
Used it twice and it already stopped working. Can't shake it down no matter how hard I try.

Good product!
Well built, slower than your digital ones, but accurate.

Works well but I found it cheaper at RiteAid
Whoever wrote that this is hard to shake the temp down must be used to only using digital thermometers. It shakes down pretty easily but then again I’m used to old school stuff, not getting everything right away. It is a bit larger than your average thermometer but again, I can cope with a little obnoxiousness. It’s also mercury-free which is great, so if it breaks you only have to worry about swallowing glass. Thanks to this little guy I found out my digital thermometer was giving me a false temp (higher) have the time….Only bad news is, I’m returning this one (unopened, don’t worry) because I found the same exact item for $5 less at Rite Aid. I just had to walk there and get it and find out I didn’t have a real temp after all. Yay me!

It does work but is hard to shake down.
I think this item has gotten a lot of bad reviews because people couldn't get it to read below a normal temperature. One reviewer said to put it in a sock, then swing the sock in a fast twirl like a propeller for a up to a minute. That worked for me. It's supposed to hold the last reading, so it's made to not go down to room temperature on its own. Seems pretty accurate but like all glass thermometers, it takes time to get a good reading--at least five minutes. Seven to ten might be better but not more than that. Our electronic thermometers read all over the place and we didn't know which one to trust. Now with the glass one, I feel we can check the real temperature and then see which electronic one is closest to that consistently.

Difficult to use
Technically it does work, but very difficult to shake down and takes an extremely long time to get up to temperature. Had no luck shaking it down even after literally counting 100 wrist flicks. Eventually took another reviewer's advice to place in a sock and swing in circles which did work. Then it did not register any change in temperature after the recommended 3 minutes under tongue. Finally tried using it in armpit and after 20 (TWENTY!) minutes it got up to 98.4 degrees F. I expect if I had left if for another 5 or 10 minutes it would eventually have reached 98.6.
