Colorpedia Notebook: Organize your colors

Works well for me
I really enjoy the cross reference of different brands of pencils in this book. It's a bit time consuming to enter them all (still working on it) but I've already successfully used it on a picture. There are only 2 things that I wished were different. I wish peach had its own page like pink does and I wish there were different sections for the browns and greys/blacks. I have 13 sets of pencils and I think I'm going to run out of room on that page. The other thing that I noticed is that I really need to focus. I've had to use some white-out tape for mislabeled sections but that was my own fault for watching a movie while filling it in. Over all, I think I'll get better use of my pencil sets using this method and may order another book for my markers if I run out of room. It is very nice to feel this organized and to see all the variety of a certain color at one glance.

Good idea BUT doesn't hit the mark
I love the IDEA of this book...but it has ONE major flaw. The pages for your color charts ONLY go to 48. As an avid colorist, I have about 12 different sets of colored pencils and they ALL are 72 or 120 sets. The color chart pages in this book only go to 48 and they are all that way. You can't continue on the next page as it restarts at (1) again. So there really is no option for sets larger then 48. And of course this will cause issues with the color charts by COLOR too. The book is also very small, and the area for a color swatch are teeny tiny. Also the space for you to write the color number and/or name is WAY too small. You would have a difficult time using both, so you will probably have to pick one or the other. But its a workable IDEA and I think I may use this design and build my own book that is truly workable.

An interesting colouring tool
The first step in using this book is to swatch your pencil sets. Because I have a number of sets I decided to buy two books, one for oil based pencils and the other for wax pencils. My intention is to be able to use pencils from different sets to complete a picture. I already had swatch sheets for my sets and I had numbered my pencils because of the difficulty in reading the colour names. The swatch pages in the book are numbered 1 to 48 which is fine for small sets but as my sets are larger I did use my number alonga with the colour name when I needed to use a second page. I did this because I find it quicker to find my pencils by this method, especially when looking for a light, mid and dark tones of a colour. I swatched the Polychromos, Lyra Rembrandt Polycolours, Derwent Lightfast, Derwent Procolour and Pablos. The next step is to organise your pencils by colour. The pencils are then added to a Color Chart. There are charts for Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink, Purple Blue, Turquoise and Teal and Brown, Gray and Black - nine charts in all. The charts have a grid and and each pencil is coloured into a cell which has a unique identifier. This identifier is then entered into the appropriate identifier table with the swatch page number. This means you can look at your colour chart, choose a colour, take a note of the cell number then go to the identifier table to find which swatch page the pencil is on. For example, the yellow pencils from all the sets are on one chart, the orange pencils are on one chart, etc. I did get a little confused initially and messaged the author for clarification - he was very prompt to answer me.For me, I hope the ability to see every yellow pencil on one page, all my greens on another etc is going to simplify my colour choices. I did realise after the event that I should have swatched my Polychromo blue greens in the Turquoise and Teal Colour Chart but I made sure I rectified that with the other sets. I also hope that now I have my colour pencils swatched together it will ensure I use all my sets. I have had the Derwent Procolours for some time and although I had swatched them, I had never used them in a picture. It was a revelation to see how lovely they were to use.It does take time and I did need to think about which Colour Chart I wanted to put a particular colour. Burnt Carmine is often on a colour chart with the browns but I did put it with the reds. Some orange pencils went on the brown Colour Chart. It is a process that shouldn't be done when you are tired either or you could lose your place. By the time I got to the last set, the Pablos, I was much quicker and had a system going.Am I happy with this book? Yes I am and I am looking forward to using it as a colouring tool.

Perfect Organizer for All My Pencils and Markers!!
I love this notebook! It is the perfect size to keep with my coloring materials. I swatched all my pencil sets and my markers. I love the ease of finding just the right color and quickly since I ordered my number only sets in number order. I also like the color charts by color. Helps me find the perfect shade of a particular color. I did make tabs for the different areas of the book so I could easily go to each section. I also made little colored tabs for the top of my book on the by color pages. Easy peasy!

Returned
Did not like the book, after I received it I decided that it would be too difficult to use with not being spiral bound.

Great system, SUBPAR PAPER.
LOVE the organization layout but the paper is thin and rough. I am too lazy to incorporate a similar system for myself in a multi medium sketch notebook. This is ment for markers pencils and pens. If paper was smoother and thiCCer then you could have a one stop shop reference for your swatches. But unfortunately, that is not what this is. If the author/publishers would like to reinvest in a reprint they should look into better quality paper. Was not jazzed about scratching up my dual tips.

Finding the right color
This little book is unique. It helps when choosing the right color that you want especially when you have several waxed based color pencil. I will need to buy another. Now if someone assisted in "color family" assignment I would be grateful.

Very useful book
Very handy for swatching multiple sets.I am a collector of large colored pencil setsand this is useful for viewing differences and similarities in tones between and within sets. Also, the book is quite a nice portable size.

Brilliant and very practical
Very well thought out and practical.Nice size, lightweight, stays open.Looks so much neater than my scruffy attempt in a notebook.Nice touch having flowers on each page to colour.Colour charts are great. If I was being picky I'd say split the browns and greys and it might have been easier if the "key to the pages" had been on the left-hand page rather than the next page.Space for over 2000 swatches. Each page has 48.Each of the 9 colour charts has space for 225 swatches.Definitely recommend.

Excellent
This is an excellent book, a paper database. It takes an age to set up, but it's worth it. I can see the colours in real life, and not have to allow for differences in screen colours. I would recommend this book highly.

How did I manage without it
Love this book. It’s was recommended by someone on a colouring group I follow and I didn’t quite know what it was or what you used it for but I bought it anyway! It’s fab and I love it. Such a clever and easy to use idea (once you start to have a go yourself but you have to be slow methodical and pay full attention to start off).
