Francis Bacon: Books and Painting

I ordered this after seeing the major Bacon exhibition currently in Paris . I have always been intrigued by him his art and life story. This book is, to be fair, billed as philosophical and psychological study and I was hoping that it would throw light on his motivations and sources as an artist . It may do for some but the language is so esoteric and requires more than a familiarity with Greek myths, and Freudian and other psychological language. However, some of the actual art criticism is simplistic and some of the text simply absurd; such as when one of the authors suggest that she approached the subject of Bacon's painting ' by throwing.. words on the page and pursuing their logic...' . In fact a bit of an insult to the reader. The one thing I can say in its favour is the range and quality of the reproductions but there are many other sources for Bacons paintings. Its definitely not for a general reader and I cannot recommend it.

Quizá el libro con el contenido más completo de Francis Bacon; me hacía mucha ilusión tener este libro en mi colección pero al parecer el envío fue muy poco cuidadoso .

Beautiful full-color plates. Highly recommend this book.
