A poetic meditation on identity and the meaning of home
The film is marketed here as a romance, and at its heart it is, but this is not a fluffy romp. The film asks some challenging and surprising questions. What happens when something unexpected changes your life forever? What happens to those who are left behind? Set in São Paulo and (mostly) Berlin, the story is comprised of three separate parts that weave together easily yet offer no easy answers. The acting is excellent and the cinematography is beautiful throughout. I was struck by the almost total absence of typical "gay romance" tropes, and this is one of the film's strengths and also the source of its biggest weakness. I struggled to believe in the initial attraction because much of it appears to have developed off screen. Once the film shifts to Germany and difficult choices are confronted the film comes into its own.I have one caveat. The pacing can be glacial, even by European standards, but the reward is an unusually lovely and thoughtful film. The ending is so well done I felt like applauding.

Don't Let The Subtitles Hold You Back
The biggest issue I have with the film is the subtitles. I believe there should be a standard applied to all foreign films released here in the U.S. I've seen the color dark yellow (gold) used for subtitles and found that to be the best for any and all films. White subtitles are completely washed out if there are any scenes show using a white background. Sorry, but I want to be able to read the dialogue. And once again, the dialogue font is too small for home viewing and changes far too quickly unless you are a speed reader. Sadly, I am not one. The acting is fine, the settings are good, and for those here in the U.S. who want something fresh and not a stereotype gay themed film, purchasing this movie is a step in the right direction.

An interesting character study of a man who chooses love over family ties .
The characters are believable, if a bit callous when it comes to home ties. Just leaving your family to move half a world away, without any goodbyes, or further contact seems short-sighted and selfish. I could sympathize with younger brother's anger. But well acted and filmed

Futuro Beach. Five stars. My headline.
Gee, I dunno. I found it pretty damn staggering. The director (and cameraman!) took his (their) time, but had me from the getgo through the fadeout. The ellipses were as telling as what was shown, and the final voice-over was as elliptical as the rest. I'll go back to this one. Oh, and yes, the imagery was outrageously beautiful. One's always grateful for that, when appropriate, and yes, apropos it was. I could call it a meditation on something, but'll keep what under the hat. Watch it.

WTF????
There will be spoiler alerts. This movie is in three acts, as they film informs you of each of them. Act 1 starts out great. Man saves one man from downing, can't save the other. The beach scenery is stunning and the car sex scene I figured this would be a great film. There are, in al three acts, too many long needless scenes that don't add to the story and it usually involves someone just staring. Act 2. We go from Brazil to Germany with no explanation why. One assumes it was for the lifeguard to find the man he saved in act one. How did he find him in Berlin as in act one the German man left abruptly. Again, another long staring pointless scene. Act 3. How do I codify this mess. You have to figure out it is ten years later. The two men have seperated but the reason is never explained...it would have been nice to know, but not even a hint. The Brazilian guys' younger brother shows up. Again, being they state they haven't spoken in ten years, how does he find him. Another endlessly long staring scene and then they all ride off on Honda motorcycles. Run credits. This was without a doubt the absolutely worst gay/gay themed movie I have ever scene. I should have stopped watching it by the third act hoping it would answer some questions; instead, it added an entire collection of new ones.

not terrible, but
I watched and listened and that is that. It was like sitting at a bar listening to a stranger telling you his stories of woe and then the bar closes and you walk away. another story and in this case...so what. the so what is fine acting, good direction, great locals.....but left me with no feelings for those involved.

Semplice e diretto

Metaphorical Beach and Real Time
A very refined and subtly angst-riddled piece of European Romance. Who could possibly be completely without that!

Lack of subtitles
Film played fine (for the first 15 mins I watched) but as there were no English subtitles I could not understand what the characters were saying. There is Portuguese subtitles, but unless you speak German or Portuguese you will struggle to follow the film.
