少し前に、長年本棚に鎮座していた The Open Society and Its Enemies (Routledge Classics) をやっと読了し、他にも控えているPopperの他の作品も読もうと思ったのですが、ふとはたしてどの程度popperの思想を理解できたのかが不安になり、なにかわかりやすい解説書がないか探してたどり着いたのがこの作品でした。いや驚きました。Brian Mageeの作品なんですわ。Brian Mageeといえばワグナー関係の書物 The Tristan Chord: Wagner and Philosophy 、で過去に読んだことがあり、その明晰でわかりやすい筆致が記憶に残っている著者でもあります。さてこの作品はpopperの思想体系への簡潔な紹介を目的としています。popperの思想は自然科学だけではなく社会科学を含めた多岐の領域にわたるのですが、それ自身が全体としての体系的な統一を作り出しており、その観点からわかりやすく解説されていきます。まず知識、科学と科学的な方法が展開され、そして理論の持つ限界、verifiabilityとfalsifiabilityの違いやcriticismその重要性、最後はopen societyの主題でもあった政治哲学までもが本書ではカバーされていきます。そこで明らかにされるのが、方法論と政策論そして人間観そして認識論の間に存在する論理的な首尾一貫性なのです。わずか100ページの中にこれ程の概要が詰め込まれているという偉業が著者のたぐいまれな能力を示しています。さて、残る疑問はこれを先に読むべきか、それとも私のように先にpopperの作品を読むべきかという点に帰着するのですが、これはどちらもありということになります。popperの作品は独特の文体と議論の型が魅力を持っているからです。なおこの作品は1973年が初版であり、私が手元にあるのは、1982年の第10版です。中古で黄色くくすんだ代物です。紛らわしいのは, Philosophy and the Real World: An Introduction to Karl Popper という作品が同じ著者から出ている点ですが、中身は同じです。 The Open Society and Its Enemies (Routledge Classics)The Tristan Chord: Wagner and PhilosophyPhilosophy and the Real World: An Introduction to Karl Popper

Ein sehr gut lesbares Buch, das auf nur etwa 100 Seiten einen sehr gut verständlichen Überblick über die gesamte Philosophie von Karl Popper bietet. Magee versteht Popper tatsächlich (was nicht selbstverständlich ist für Bücher über ihn) und beschreibt mit klaren Worten und ohne Geschwafel, was die entscheidenden Ideen sind, die man begreifen sollte. Das Buch ist oft gebraucht für einen Apfel und ein Ei zu haben. Zugreifen!
