Word to Kindle Formatting Magic: Self-Publishing on Amazon with Style

Thorough, very, almost too much
I bought this book to understand Kindle formatting for self-publishing. It covers that amazingly, in extremely minute detail. So if you are looking for something that goes over every little teeny, tiny detail of taking a book written in Word, and then formatting it into an HTML file that would be uploaded to Amazon, then this is your book. I would recommend this book for that purpose. But, I warn you, this book is extremely long winded. He uses many, many parenthetical clarifications, which sometimes make the book hard to follow. He also covers many more topics unrelated to formatting, in extreme detail, like how your author photo should be, how much you should sell your book for, and so on, things I did not buy the book for and wouldn't.Conclusion: great for formatting, bad for its long-windedness and its infinite subjects unrelated to formatting.

Invaluable resource for self-publishers and freelancers
I'm a self-published author and I prepare my books completely on my own to save some cash. I've encountered several books on e-book formatting but none of them was such a comprehensive self-publisher's jewel! It is very detailed and various tools are presented and discussed. All the material is presented clearly, step by step. The book is more than enough to learn elegant e-book formatting. What is more, it presents various approaches and teaches the readers how to prepare various kinds of books, for some of them require quite complex way of formatting. The book is an invaluable resource not only for authors, but also for freelancers who want to deliver their services on markets like Fiverr or UpWork. Maybe you're not an author, but the knowledge of e-book formatting can be still useful and profitable. Most of the authors hire freelancers who do the whole formatting. Of course, the book itself isn't enough. You need to practice before you start to deliver your services.

Long Book on Making Kindle Book, but No TOC, or is There?
His writing is detailed and apparently accurate, it is repetitive, but I thought the worst part is that in a long book about how to create a Kindle book there is NO table of contents. Onlooking at it in Kindle for PC I found a TOC. On going back to my Kindle, there was one. Either I was wrong, for which I apologize or there was communication between the two platforms to pick one up. Seems implausible, but not impossible considering the highlights transfer. I'm changing my rating from 3 to 4.

If Not Magic, It's More
The book, Word to Kindle Formating Magic by Chris McMullen, turns the voodoo and oft-repeated bad advice on how to do book formatting into a documented process. One needs the process only when that time in the writing of a book it's time to turn your words into computerese. It is a great reference book for when you need it. I have worn the pages out turning them. LOL.

Say what?
I have only just begun this book and started applying its instructions to my manuscript. The *very first instruction*, how to remove excess line breaks, is wrong. It says to use global Find & Replace, OK, a no-brainer. But he says to remove the Paragraph Characters, (symbol ^v) but shows the symbol (^p) for Paragraph Marks. I'm hoping to heaven that going with the one I've always used in the past to clean up documents, ^p, will work!Disappointing!

New Way of Using Word! Yes, it’s magic!
This should be used as a workbook. It’s an excellent way to see and use word if you are a writer. I am using his suggestions on my next book. My book, The Short Sweet History of Ivy Morgan by LS Bay is available on Amazon Kindle and paperback.

Couldn’t access.
I don’t have a Kindle, so I did not get to read it. I thought I was getting a paperback. I am an old fashioned book-in-hand person and not likely to change at age 75. I’d sure like to have it in paperback.

Uninspring and Dull Guide to Kindle Direct Publishing
A word of warning: this book was not as good or as informative as other guides to KDP publishing, notably David Gaughran's or Sally Jenkins's books. I also had some issues with the illustrations on my Kindle - they did not reproduce on my screen at all well.
