Rescue Your Dog from Fear: Tried-and-True Techniques to Help Your Dog Feel Secure

Much needed information
I rescued a dog with a history of being in the dog meat trade in Asia. She is not at all aggressive but completely shut down and fearful. Panics at the sight of a leash. This is the only book I found that deals with a dog that you can’t put a leash on yet. Lots of really helpful encouragement and advice. My dog now comes out of her crate for treats and she perks up when I come into her pen. Big progress from the little one who was hiding under the bed in her crate three months ago. Highly recommend.

I found this book to have helpful information
I found this book to have good information for learning how to build a working relationship with my fearful dog. I highly recommend for dog owners who are at a loss for how to help a dog that struggles with fears.

Good information, bad labeling for these innocent animals that have already been through hell
There was some great help in this book for shy, reserved, soft and fearful dogs. Really appreciated the additional information, some of which I have not seen elsewhere in working with these animals that so need our love and patience and help. Virtually all of it is positive training except for a few references to leash jerks. One thing that I truly hated was the author referring to foster, fearful dogs as "projects". They are living, feeling, thinking souls and not some inanimate object (pp 19-20). On page 85 she refers to abused and otherwise harmed dogs as people getting "stuck" with them, like they were some kind of defective lemon of a car. Once again, I object to this way of referring to these beautiful animals through faults of humans for their issues, not through any fault of their own. How awful to think of them as merchandise. This book lost 2 stars for this attitude which is sad as there is so much good information in the book,

Sucks
I bought this book because it was supposed to have several suggestions for getting a scared dog into the car. There were only two mentions of a car and nothing helpful. Plus, the author is more interested in slamming Cesar Milan and his method — which works great for my other dog — and trying to convince the reader that her methods are so much better than his. She is so irritating that I can’t even finish the book.
