I bought this for my 12-year old son's birthday. He loves it. He has plenty of basketballs, but wanted to bring this one to his tournament games for warm-ups.Although it is a generic ball (no brand name or markings other than the inscription), it is actually a decent basketball. It hold air well, bounces very naturally, and the cover has a slight tackiness but still a smooth leather-like touch. I won't let him use it in the driveway, but on a court it is a very decent ball. And he loves it, of course.I especially emphasized the "you either win or learn" motto, which is a great life lesson. As I explained to him, everyone except Michael Jordan is going to eventually play against a better player. I used to look forward to playing with better players, because it always elevated my own game and pushed me to learn and get better. Also, it is great for a "next game" mentality, as opposed to holding a grudge and living in a past that you can't change, anyway.Never lose. Win or learn.

When my grandson opened it he read it and a tear came to his eye. When he was told he can't play with it outside, he grew angry.

My grandson eat and lived basketball. He highly motivated so this was the perfect gift to show my support for his dream.

Quality ball, 'engraving' is clean and without glitches. Comes with your average pump & needle (it arrives deflated), and a cheap net & carrying bag. My son really enjoyed the fact that the pump is gold in color. Only takes about 60 seconds to pump it up. The extras might not be top shelf value but were great little bonuses with this purchase. We will use the net for his indoor hoop on his door that needs replacing. The item came sooner than expected. Being more the novelty gift, I didn't expect the ball to be that great of qualityso I was impressed with what arrived. If for some reason someone wanted to shoot some hoops with it, they definitely could. Looks great on the recommended display shelf & makes a sweet gift. Perhaps one day they will accommodate personalization of engraved text.
