Great practice tool for algebra one students
This is a great study and practice tool for my 8th grader. They don't do nearly enough math problems to master any algebra concept in class or for homework so I bought this for home practice. It follows the algebra text book and gives many different examples of the problems each section is covering. I ordered one for a friend as well and their only complaint is that there is no answer key in the back to refer to. I don't have a problem with that since I think sometimes answer keys tend to defeat the purpose of the child working to solve the problem (in other words, my son might give up too quickly and look up the answer instead). I'm OK with no answer key but some people might disagree. I find the workbook a super addition to learning algebra one...you do need to use scrap paper to do your work, though. There are a ton of problems on each page and no room to work them out on the page. Not a problem for us in that my son needs extra paper anyway since he writes bigger but some might not like using extra paper just to factor out a problem.

Disappointment for a parent: No Answer Key Included
Perhaps it was an unrealistic expectation to think that a workbook would include the solutions. I have yet to find a solution key for this series. Had I known that the book did not include the solutions, I would not have purchased it. Lack of an answer key greatly reduces the utility of the workbook for at home practice, unless the parent completely recalls Algebra 1.Also, this workbook does not exactly track the Ohio Edition of the text. Chapter 4 is different. I have not compared it to the reminder of the book.Furthermore, the description lead me to believe that there would be a variety of worked out problems for each lesson. The worked out examples are instead pretty sparse. Overall, the workbook appears to be geared more for supplementary work from a teacher than for a parent working with a child at home.Otherwise, the workbook does provide additional problems in a similar format to that of the book. It does provide additional sheets of targeted practice for most lessons in the textbook.

Thumbs down from math tutor
We are homeschooling for a year or two, but wanted my son to keep up with the kids in his grade for when he returns to school, so we bought the same textbooks our school district uses, which is this series, specifically pre algebra and algebra I. We bought both the hardcover text book that students in the school use, and the soft cover workbook supplements. The hardcover books are just as dry and mind numbing as the math textbooks we all grew up on, which is too bad...math is FUN, and it is my son's favorite subject. (He's a math genius actually.) There are so many great math books oriented for homeschoolers that are actually good, why do schools choose these classic lead bricks of books that can just take the joy out of it?The supplemental soft cover books are useless. I thought they'd correspond to the main text, providing additional exercises, but they don't seem to correspond at all. A math tutor who used to be a high school math teacher for years works with my son, and she had hoped to make use of the supplemental workbook but instead she just makes up her own exercises for him.

Goes with the Text Book
Really nice quality workbook - both physically, and content. Not very much money. Nothing fancy, black and white, just has lots of extra problems, and you can't really work them out in the workbook since there isn't enough space. I don't think you really need the workbook, since the textbook has plenty of problems as it is. I suppose someone out there is doing problems 1 through 54 in the book for exercise 1-6, and then another 100 or so for good measure in the workbook. But, it isn't my kid.

Excellent material for home schooling
I like this book's no-nonsense approach. For each subject, a half-page explanation is followed by 1 1/2 pages of exercises. The coverage is comprehensive and the print is reasonably small to pack dense information. There is no solution in the back, so the kid can be left to work on the problems by himself without the temptation of peeking at the answers.Of course, parental guidance is vital at the beginning of each lesson and necessary whenever the student gets stuck on a problem. This book is too spartan for self-teaching.

No Answers, No Answer Key Available
I purchased this to help augment my home schooled daughter in her Algebra I studies. I should have read the other negative review first, but not being able to physically look through the book and determine that there in fact, are no answers available and no answer key available, I purchased it anyway filled with hope that that was an easy fix.I have conducted several exhaustive Internet searches to find any html file or even a website that either has the answer key or at the least, the title of the document that contains the answers for an additional cost. My search has not been successful, therefore, without answers to ensure correctness of studies, I have found this product to be a waste of our time.

Study Guide & Practice Workbook
My apparent inexperience with Amazon's ordering system resulted in me paying for and receiving 2 of these when I actually wanted only one. However, the books were well priced, delivered promptly by the seller and in excellent condition. Pages are prepared to pull out which will be helpful proofs of me homeschooling my 9th grader for her to restart our local public school in 10th grade next year. No regrets! Thanks.
