Image Processing: The Fundamentals

The book is very good. For beginners in image processing this is probably the best book in the market. Though its a masters level book but undergraduates can easily get a grasp of it... Over all a great book.

I found the book extremely helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.It gives the solid theoretical background of the methods and algorithms, which range from classical material to more modern techniques, like ICA, graph cuts, etc. At the same time, the book guides the reader in a step by step recipe of how to use techniques, and what to avoid. What I also found extremely useful, for teaching the topic to students, is that there are many examples, which are fully worked out with all the details. The students love it.The MATLAB code, that is included in a CD that comes with the book, is a valuable tool for experimenting with the various techniques, and helping the reader to grasp the secrets associated with the associated techniques and algorithms.Sergios TheodoridisUniversity of Athens

This book follows a question/answer approach with multiple worked examples for each topic, something which is lacking in many other textbooks. Unlike other textbooks which simply state the mathematical theory, this textbook demonstrates the application in several examples, which then allows the reader to apply it in a more complex setting. In this respect it is excellent for self-directed study. Professors Petrou and Bosgognianni write clearly and illustrate applications for each image processing algorithm or technique. I would reccomend this to any student of image processing.

It was my first step to start. In a short period of time, It would be possible to obtain very valuable and useful ideas about the concept of image processing through well described mathematical analysis of matrices and image.By the descriptions in this book the scinece of image processing, which seems rather complicated becomes more touchable and more understandable.

The Socratic technique is very helpful and makes the book highly readable. It is full of useful examples and is very highly recommended.
