Great temporary/semi-permanent option!
We purchased this door so our cat could go in and out when we were on vacation. We didn't permanently install it, and it still works great--so well we are thinking of keeping it full-time. This is a great option if you are a renter and can't make permanent changes to your home but want to make sure your cat can come and go as they please. The cat door matches with my existing sliding glass door and looks attractive when installed. Installation was easy and I can pop it out of the frame when I don't want to use it. I highly recommend this door! Some possible drawbacks to consider: 1) lack of insulation between cat door and sliding glass door may be a concern in the winter. I'm considering putting some weather stripping to make sure it doesn't leak. 2) security: If you live in an area where there are frequent break-ins, this door is not for you, since it is easily removable. 3) space: the amount of space I have to get laundry baskets and other larger items out the sliding glass door is considerably smaller with the cat door installed. There's definitely enough room for any normal or larger sized person to get out, but it is smaller. While I consider the trade off to be worth it, you may feel otherwise.

Good but not great.
The actual piece that goes into the sliding glass door is great. My issue is with the accessories such as the weather stripping. Neither of the provided weather stripping pieces worked. They both fell off shortly after being put on. I do like the door part though which is why I still have it 4 stars.

Works great.
Pleasantly surprised. It's a sturdy unit and easily installed with no permanent marks to the door or frame.I would recommend buying an extra strip that blocks air from the new gap between the windows and install the extra one on the outside. I had a very small draft at the edges with only the one but the second strip fixed that.

Great product for my needs.
This door worked great for me. My family and I were away from home for 2 weeks and we didn't want Kitty to be confined to the the house for such a long period of time. She spends half of her days/nights outside. I wanted her to be able to go in and out while we were gone. My sliding doors are 8 feet high so this insert was about 16 inches short. I made some modifications to make it fit and fill the space. I did not want it permanently installed so I figured out how to make it a temporary door for use when we leave town. I put it in when we leave and then take it out when we get back. At first Kitty didn't seem to like using the door. She prefers somebody open the door for her to let her in and out. But now I think she misses it. Gave her so much freedom and independence as she didn't need help from us humans anymore to go in and out. ha ha. It's stored in the closet now, but I'll put it in again next time we go away for more than a few days.

This was the biggest waste of time and money for me in a long ...
Please don't buy this product. This was the biggest waste of time and money for me in a long time. Don't believe the video that shows a woman easily installing this.1. The flap would not stay on with the screws tighened. The head of the screws are not big enough to stop the holes in the flap from slipping past them.2. The plastic door that closes over the flap is useless if you just want to lift it during the day and close at night because it will not stay up. You have to remove it completely each day.3. The weather stripping is cheap.4. I could not align my door with the sliding glass pet door so there were no gaps between them. I even bought new thicker weather stripping to see if that helped. There would always be a draft even if I had a flap that stayed on.5. It's not true that you could take this with you if you moved. You are required to drill holes in the door to keep the top of it in one place, else it could just be pulled out of place because of the spring action. And that's fine because you would want the door to stay in place. However, once you moved, you would have to have the exact dimensions in the door in your new place or else look at an ugly drill hole in your door. So to say you could stip it out and take it with you is stretching the truth.6. I threw it right in the trash once I realized how hard it was going to be to get it to be a safe and weather efficient door because I'd already ruined the door with drill holes trying to install it so it couldn't really be returned in new condition.

Visitors sometimes pull it out of place, but the cat loves it
After over two years of constant use, this cat door panel is holding up great, inserted in the sliding door track for my deck. It's admittedly kind of a heat suck in the winter, but my cat loves his 24/7 deck access so much that I can't bring myself to uninstall it and thankfully our winters aren't normally sub-freezing. If you can do the permanently-fixed install, you won't have my problem of guests who pull out the panel when the main slider is already open for them - it's a minor inconvenience.

Don't buy this door used...
I bought this door used because it saved me a good amount of money but it arrived without the center support pieces that are crucial to joining the two door pieces together. I started a return but my partner was able to grind down a couple of pieces of 1/2" EMT conduit and get them to fit in the slots. So I am keeping the door.I gave this a 3 star review not because of the missing parts but because, as a lot of people have said, the flap doesn't close after my cat has gone in or out. The magnet that holds the bottom of the flap isn't strong enough to pull the stiff plastic material that the flap is made of back to the metal frame. You wouldn't want too strong of a magnet because then the animal won't really be able to push it open but I have to go and tap it shut with my toe every time my cat goes in or out! I'm not sure if the plastic will soften up over time (I doubt it) and the flap will close tight or not but I'm struggling to figure out a work around.I think the design is good, the quality of the glass and frame is good, and the ease of installation is good. Now fix the door flap and it would be a 5 STAR product!
