Validation at last!
This is a great book for all levels of communicators! It is an easy read with inspiring and interesting stories. The communication tasks are easily referenced "bullet points" (actually fun paw print points) - it's like a fun workbook, written in the author's voice and includes a fantastic sense of humor and Southern charm. This book includes 12 lessons, each with highlights and tasks that encourage hands-on practice, as well as insight into the gifts of animal communication. Topics include how to get started, how information comes through to us, common blocks in communication and how to overcome these, how to communicate with clients and counseling multispecies families, as well as special challenges and honing our own "superpowers"! There are tips for communicating with animals, but I didn't feel like I was being told what to do. Instead, the author provided examples from her own experiences and those of her students. Through these examples, I had many "ah ha" moments, realizing what and how I'm already communicating!

Not my usual read - but I LOVED THIS!
I didn't read this as the writer recommends - one chapter a week.. completing the tasks and assignments. The reason - I couldn't put it down! It is beautifully written and I read it straight through - but I'm about to read it again, as suggested - and complete the work after each chapter. I already know what my main stumbling blocks will be. I'm not afraid that I won't be able to do this. I'm afraid that I will! As I said, not my usual read - but I hear a dog barking in our neighborhood and I think it is in distress and asking for help. I've walked around this large lot, wooded neighborhood without a sighting. Hopefully, when I've completed this course, I'll be able to help. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know their animals better.

Very insightful -- I couldn't put it down!
Anyone who’s ever had a pet knows they communicate with us in all sorts of ways. This book teaches you how—step by step—to listen and “hear” them speak. The book is well-written and its stories, based on the author’s own experiences, are fascinating. A must-read for anyone who loves animals!

Most enjoyable read
I love the way this is written. The case studies and stories are especially enjoyable. True animal communicators have a special talent and gift. Hopefully this book will help others to develop their own talents.

Pay close attention, mindfulness, with animals
Babette de Jongh carefully and thoughtfully takes us through the art of paying close attention to animals. She explains the use of our five senses (seeing, hearing, etc.) along with telepathy which is described as intuition on "steroids". You may have seen the movie "Horse Whisperer" with a character played by Robert Redford who is an expert at working with horses. Buck Brannaman was the consultant on that movie and teaches owners the art of understand the horse. Cesar Millan is on TV as the "dog whisperer" where he demonstrates how to interact with dogs. And of-course there are real life whisperers of children, plants and even older adults. I enjoyed reading this book to understand better how to focus my attention, pay close attention, be mindful. Each lesson opens you to a new way of seeing the world that will be both pleasurable and useful. Perhaps people interested in mindfulness should start with this book, this practical approach, to gain confidence, build skills and grow to understand the power of the human mind.

Want to learn to communicate with animals?
I bought this book already. I've only read the first lesson of 12 lessons, but I want to see if I can learn to "listen" more actively to animals and communicate with them. I love the first chapter and can't wait to read more. The book is meant to be read one lesson per week, giving the reader time to practice if they would like to try to communicate with animals themselves. I hope my right brain will engage and give my left brain a rest. Even if you don't think you want to learn to communicate with animals on your own, you may still want to read this book. We all know the physical world is not all there is, it's only a fraction of what is available to us. If you've ever experienced the love of an animal, you already know the more time and attention you invest in the relationship, the more you get out of it. You can see that animals are connected and intuitive. Sometimes they try to tell us things. They watch us and try to learn about us. What if we could learn to listen and actually understand them? Maybe all we have to do is make the effort and practice. I have had the privilege of meeting the author, Babette De Jongh. Full disclosure: she communicated with my dog, who experienced a life threatening health crisis. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for her genuine compassion during that ordeal. She greatly added to my dog's quality of life and Babette's bridge in our communication increased our bond even more than I believed was possible. Babette is legitimate. An added benefit is that she wants to share by teaching others to communicate with animals too. Her gift of being able to communicate with animals will leave you with a lasting impression that we are way too preoccupied with the physical world when the spiritual world goes largely overlooked. How much are we really missing? By reading this book, at the least your perspective will be broadened. In the process, you may just expand your own ability to enrich both your life and the lives of animals around you. Animals do this all the time with each other, why don't we join them?September 21, 2019 This is an update to my original review of this book. I've finished reading it now. I have been practicing to see if I too can learn to communicate with animals. Some of my practicing has surprised me and made me laugh, so I want to learn more. I'm eager to reread this book again, and I'm sure I will get even more out of it the second time around. I'd like to suggest you skim through all of the lessons first. If I had done that initially, I would have decided to read lesson 11 called "Special Challenges" first. I found many examples there I could relate to with some of my past pet companions. Lesson 8 "Common Blocks, Digging Deeper" will be another lesson that I want to spend more time in considering. I'd like to "get out of my own way" and listen to what I know is really waiting there. If you've ever experienced moments of intuition, or sensing, or seeing something that you know defies logic, or rational explanation, then you can also accept we're not the only beings here with the capacity for conveying thoughts and feelings. We just need to find the bridge for that language. Who wouldn't want to have a more enriching experience with our animal companions? This book is a wonderful place to begin the introduction!
