SHIMANOPolymer Coated Brake Cable Set - Red

Install with care. Rear cable ruined during standard installation
Really disappointed in these, was hoping for great things. Shimano makes excellent stuff. Opening the packaging for these one finds some nice solid and well manufactured stuff: one short and one long length of cable housing, one short and one long cable (which look beautiful btw) and a small packet with two nosed ferrules and two cable end caps. That's it.I've redone my brake cables countless times. So installing these went like any other, cutting the hosing to length, securing it to my bars with tape, putting the ferrule(s) in place etc, followed by sliding the brake cable through.Well it was during this last step where somehow things went wrong. The polymer coating on the cable started to fray, and before long the smooth sliding of the cable into the housing turned into a considerable effort trying to get it through. By the time it came out the other side, it looked like the cable had gotten run over by a lawnmower, the polymer coating was so frayed. I kept going and fixed the cable to my caliper, gave the lever a squeeze, and it just stayed locked closed. The fraying was so bad that the brake lever couldn't move freely, it felt like the entire brake housing was filled with grit. I pulled the cable out and used a different uncoated one, and trashed the brand new one because I don't think it can be repaired.I will not repeat these mistakes when I go and do the front brake, but I'm extremely disappointed that the brand new cable was rendered basically useless just from being installed.So. INSTALL THESE WITH GREAT CARE or you will waste your time and money. It's a total shame. Plus the fact that they only include 2 ferrules in the whole pack is so cheap to me, I feel like I got ripped off for sure. They should also include more housing length. Feel like I got ripped off, not by the seller here but by Shimano themselves. Hoping the front brake cable installation works out better and I actually get to try the cable and housing as a set, like it was designed to be used. We shall see....

Still looking for a good supplier on Amazon for when I do my friends ...
This is a full set. Front/Rear polymer cables. & Front/Rear BC-9000 housings with ferrules / crimps etc...Comes in original blue envelope style Shimano packaging. If you're building a bike and need brake cables, you're all set with this.As for my review on them?Top notch stuff.Don't try to re-use. The polymer strips/frays off and clogs cable housing.Make sure you do it right the first time. Some say to not use any grease/lube on these... up to you.Don't forget your shifter cables!Wish these guys sold the same dura ace level shifter cable set... I'd buy from them all the time.Still looking for a good supplier on Amazon for when I do my friends bikes, or re-do/upgrade mine.

Verified "it's cable"
Genuine Shimano brake cables and housings. They are great but worth it? Nah... If the bike shops near me stayed opened later it would have been just as effective and way cheaper to buy standard bulk brake cables and bulk housing. I figured since I had to order online I might as well get the "good?" stuff. It's coated cable, but it's just brakes so why spend the dough for a slight difference. I am just glad I have new cables.

Polymer coating is an absolute horror.
The polymer coating is quite useless as it get damaged very easily, it is enough to put the cable into the housing a little under angle so that it touches the housing as you slide it in and the polymer coating get damaged. Fortunately, this has little to effect on performance as the power applied to brakes is much bigger than the additional friction the damaged polymer coating causes.

Dura ace cables, no need for explanations.
Hey, it's the standard in all my road bikes. The only decision are the colors.

Includes front & rear cables but only two ferrules
The photo for this product makes you wonder if you'll only get one brake cable, but it is in fact a complete set of front & rear brake cables. Too bad it only includes two ferrules. I wound up going to my local bike shop for more, but theirs weren't as nice.

Make your shimano brakes operate like new.
Excellent cables! Refreshed my 5-year old road bike with 5000 miles on Ultegra 10-speed compact gear and rim brake set. These mad the brakes work like new and have better inner cable coatings than the originals.
