Great gift for your school age son or grandson.
I wanted to purchase a gift for my grandson's seventh birthday. It was a difficult task because my grandson is technically savvy, and knows how to play games and browse on his parents' laptops, iPads, and other wireless devices. Also, my grandson has many hand held electronic video games, and I knew I wouldn't know what to give him that he didn't have already.Undaunted, I knew my grandson enjoys reading. He has amassed an impressive collection of books in his 'library', including numerous books on his favorite topics such as outer-space, dinosaurs, reptiles, and more recently sharks. I knew a book would be the perfect gift. After doing a bit of researching, and reading reviews here on Amazon, I decided on, 'The Biggest, Baddest Book Ever'. This seemed a great book for a school age boy with an active imagination, and a zeal for outdoor actives, science fairs, and special events held at the Bay area Children's Museum near his home.'The Biggest, Baddest Book Ever', contains many fascinating facts to peek my grandson's interest and imagination. It also contains other fun facts about the secrets of magic tricks, science experiments, natural phenomenons, trivia facts, and a lot more - including survival tips when on outdoor excursions and adventures.Be warned. 'Boys will be boys'! Therefore, if your son or grandson attempts a harmless stunt, don't be alarmed if he exclaims, "I got the idea from, 'The Biggest, Baddest Book Ever'!"I'm pleased that receiving, 'The Biggest, Baddest Book Ever' was a gift my grandson enjoyed. He reads it often, and I am sure your son or grandson will also enjoy the book packed with fun activities.Maizie Lucille JamesJuly 13, 2012

Reading candy for boys.
Interesting and full of facts, this book is bigger and badder than most others in the genre. It has factoids galore, some of which are soon to be outdated. In 157 pages you have over 100 small sections and quite a bit more facts. It will keep him busy for a while. Each small section is fun and compact and won't take the average 8-12 year old too long to read. They are fun and if your son likes it, why not, if it gets him reading and off the video games? And that is my one concern of these types of books--they are easy to pick up and easy to put down. Kind of like reading candy, not terribly thought provoking. Not likely to lead to deep discussions and more likely to lead to the boy asking you factual stuff you might not have the answer to. That's ok. Get him started on something.Let's hope you can move him to something more thought provoking soon. Pick up some classics like Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, or the Robert Heinlein Sci-Fi books or a modern classic like The Perfect Game.

It's a Christmas present for my grandson
I got it recently and will wrap it up for my 11 year old grandson. He likes reading, so I surely hope he will like it. It covers many "boy" subjects. Now I am writing after Christmas....my grandson, Mason, opened the book and read the back of it outloud to us such as HOw to Catch an Alligator! with much excitement, then he kind of zoned out and was lost in leafing through and investigating the book. I can't tell you what joy that brought to my heart. I am an avid reader and have wanted my 3 kids and 5 grandkids to love books like I do. But they're not so much. In this case I could see that I had picked just the right book for Mason to get him good and hooked. During our fun Christmas celebrations that may be a first! A grandson who got so lost in his book that he tuned out the Christmas happenings! YAY.

Reading level is high for the audience to which it appeals!
My son is 8 and he reads above the typical reading level for his age by 1-1.5 years; This is an advanced read for him. The problem is that the content wouldn't likely appeal to a child whose reading level is matched to the book; however, it's a pretty good book for father:son exploration or even a mother:son exploration. I recommend it for advanced readers and to parents who want to sit with their children and snuggle up for some fun reading!

Bought for my 11 yr. old nephew for Christmas
I had no clue what to get this one nephew of mine for Christmas. I know he likes to read so I searched his age for books. This came up and I liked the price, reviews, and ordered it. I was hesitant when I got it because it didn't seem to have very many pictures. Something I would like to see, but I just scanned it very quickly. I thought I don't have time to get anything else so this will have to do. He opened it and I kind of held my breath a little worried and said it was supposed to be really good. Then let it go at that. After he looked at it for about 15 min. he was all smiles with things he had read in it. He didn't even care about the gifts the rest of the family gave. He loved it! Score!! :)

Great but needs updating!
Great book but needs updating! It was published in 2007 and lots of the facts are now obsolete.

Cool and funny little book!
Bought this for my nephew who doesn't like to read...he looked so excited to jump into it! It's also "only" for boys, so he enjoyed showing off to his sister that she wasn't allowed to touch it!
