'Kenny' is an incredible feature film that tells the unique story of a man whose life and career have become entwined with the fortunes of his adopted city. Tragedy and triumph have been shared over more than thirty years, cementing Kenny Dalglish's place in the hearts of everyone who lives in the city. Known as 'The King', Kenny Dalglish was revered by fans during his time at Liverpool FC, where as a player and manager he won 27 trophies. However, arguably his greatest challenge came in the aftermath of Hillsborough, when he became a beacon of hope and strength in the fight for justice that followed. In 1985, following the Heysel Stadium disaster, Kenny was appointed Player-Manager of Liverpool Football Club. Already lionized for his feats on the pitch, this intensely private 34-year old was now the public face of Liverpool, making the leap from player to gaffer with 39 deaths hanging over the club, the city, the entire nation. His success at the club during the years that followed are uniquely captured through his eyes and interviews with legendary former players such as Alan Hansen, Ian Rush, and John Barnes as well as one of his greatest rivals Sir Alex Ferguson. These triumphs were eventually overshadowed by Hillsborough, the impact of that terrible day revealed by Kenny, his closest friends and family, with the toil of carrying the grief of an entire city eventually leading to Kenny's resignation as manager. Uplifting, powerful, funny but at times truly heart breaking, this unique portrait of a proud Scotsman who captured the hearts of Merseyside will move everyone who watches it. This film tells the story of one of football's greatest players and a city's favourite son. Different is good!
Wonderful.I know little about football, but I didn't need to. He is indeed King Kenny, talented, dignified, strong, loyal, true, and funny. The story centres around the Hillsborough disaster and shows how the enormity of what happened affected those directly involved especially Kenny himself.A must for everyone who likes a human story not just Liverpool fans.

King Kenny of the Kop
This is a good film about a fascinating, driven and very talented man and he is Scottish. It focuses a lot on the very sad Hillsborough disaster and unfortunately he had to witness others, poor man.I would have really liked to see more of his football playing than we were given,as he was brilliant.Though Scottish through and through a big part of his heart is in Liverpool and with that team and that really comes across.Heβs always struck me as a decent, very private man so this is a nice tribute and one he deserves. Did I mention he was Scottish? π

Very moving
Very well put together and thought provoking. Having grown up watching Kenny throughout his heyday, it brought back many wonderful - but also heartbreaking - memories.Excellent production values, with the low points of Heysel and Hillsborough handled in a very respectful and sensitive manner.Without doubt one of the very best sports documentaries I have ever seen.

King Kenny.
By happy coincidence I ordered this just a few days before it was announced that this amazing man is (FINALLY) getting a knighthood. It's beautifully filmed, with clearly no expense spared. The stories shared are heartfelt, genuine and moving, although it was very hard to watch at times. This man is an inspiration and a legend and his amazing close family are a testament to that.
