It's to attach a fob watch to a belt!
If you're looking for the classic "Albert", be careful. The attachment on this item is designed to attach the chain to A BELT, not a buttonhole.Other than that, it's reasonable value for the price, and can be attached to a buttonhole by sliding the attachment with the flat side uppermost over the edge of the waistcoat so the buttonhole is visible between the bars, then push the button between the attachment's bars at the back and front of the buttonhole. This might be a bit tricky if the waistcoat's fabric is thick or stiff, but can be achieved.Or just attach it to a belt, put the watch in the small jeans type pocket, and buy a "bar" ended Albert for the waistcoat!

Perfect when wearing jeans.
I started using an old pocket watch, but I didn't want waistcoat fittings. The spring clip is perfect for jeans. The (jeans) watch pocket was made for the purpose and the clip secured the chain to my waistband.
