We bought this book just before doing a survey on our new house and I felt we were almost able to identify most issues ourselves before getting the survey report thanks to this book. The book goes through the history of Victorian houses and all their usual structural elements with short intro text, picture, usual defects and a few DIY tips. It is very well explained and doesn't take more than 6 hours to read back to back

These are great basic reference books that bring some common sense to issues like dealing with damp, rot, etc. Well worth having in the house.
