My Oxford Reading Tree Dictionary

This is a lovely book. My daughter (age 6) is always asking the meanings of different words so now we can look things up together and she can learn new words also. Lovely illustrations.

This dictionary really helped my children build their vocabulary. Nice pictures that match well with the Oxford Reading Tree series - used widely in UK schools.

ORTのstage1+と共に買いましたが、こちらの方が受けてます。私は留学中イギリス英語を使っていたので購入しましたが、アメリカ英語に慣れている人には、あれ？と言う部分もあります。絵や文字も見やすくて、子供（１歳８ヶ月）は数回読んであげるとお気に入りの単語はすぐに覚えて、一人でも集中してよく声を出して読んでいます。おばあちゃんは、絵を見て単語を日本語で読んであげているので、うちでは二通りの使い方をしています。数や月、曜日など盛りだくさんなので本編に合わせて一冊あるとよいと思います。

Anyone with children learning to read has probably come across the Biff, Chip and Kipper series as they are the most popular phonic and reading sets in Junior Schools in the UK. They are a series of books that develop in difficulty teaching basic sounds to full stories. As these books are from Oxford Press, they have come up with the clever idea of producing a dictionary that uses the quality illustrations and stories that are already written.‘My Oxford Reading Tree Dictionary’ is a standard dictionary for children, but the descriptions often refer to a Biff story. This means that the book is full of colour and familiar characters. The word is placed in context by using it in a sentence from one of the books. Your child may even remember the story.There is a dual use to this book. It works as a dictionary. It is colourful and has a nice guide along the edges to tell you where you are in the alphabet. It is not all encompassing, but for a children’s dictionary it has a lot of words. Where it works even better is a dictionary to use with the Biff books. As ’My Oxford Reading Tree Dictionary’ is populated with words from those books, should you stumble across one that makes no sense, it will be found within this dictionary’s pages.I would rate ‘My Oxford Reading Tree Dictionary’ as an excellent reference work for a child who is developing their own reading no matter what. It is a well-designed resource that is colourful and as fun as a dictionary is ever going to be. Where it is even better is as a companion for the reader books. You should never get lost with your words again.
