RIEDELSommeliers Series Single Stem Rheingau Glass, Packed in a Gift Tube, One Size, Clear

We've just done a comparative tasting of this Riedel Sommeliers glass versus the much cheaper Riedel Vinum Rheingau glass. The two glasses look very similar in shape. The noticeable differences are that the stem of the Vinum glass is shorter; the bowl of the Vinum is marginally wider and the glass is thicker than the hand-blown Sommeliers glass. We tasted a 2006 Maximin Grunhauser Absberg Kabinett in the two different glasses. Riedel recommend the Rheingau glass for Kabinett wines. We were amazed by the difference: though the wine was attractive to drink in either glass it was much livelier and more distinguished in the Sommelier glass. The difference in flavour remained if one poured the wine from one type of glass to the other and back again.After our tasting we felt quite stunned that a glass could make such a difference. We'd had similar experiences with the Sommeliers Burgundy glass compared with an ordinary wine glass but hadn't thought that the Sommeliers versus Vinum of such similarly shaped glasses as these Rheingau ones would also have a profound effect on the wine. The only thing we can think of to account for the difference in flavour is that the physical chemistry of the surface of a glass is affecting flavour: the Vinum glass is machine-made and the Sommeliers is hand-blown lead crystal.

It is difficult to find these glasses so I was pleased to find them on Amazon, especially at this price!

Hatte eines meiner Riedel-Gläser beschädigt. Darum der Nachkauf. Die Gläser sind in den Originaldosen verpackt unbeschädigt angekommen. Werde wenn notwendig wieder auf diesen Weg Riedel-Gläser kaufen. Wartezeit in Wien bei einer Bestellung bis zu 2 Monate. Es werden im Fachhandel nur Sammelbestellungen durchgeführt.

I purchased the same glass a few week ago.And then, the received glass was not the same as described on the product page.By chance I ordered another one and now I have received the right item.

Als Weintrinker brauch nicht viel zu sagen,wenn man solche Gläser zum trinken benutzt,einfach mal ausprobieren.Einige kennen bestimmt den unterschied vom dicken bzw. dünnen Bierglas.
