I had my last set of locals last 10 years! I was so stoked! But my strap finally broke so I bought a new pair and they only lasted 6 months this time. The foam is way softer and smoother now, something is different. I'm still gonna buy but I'd like to see the old formula make a comeback. This is my third pair now and maybe the foam is better this time. I hope this isn't the classic "we need to sell more slippers so make them not last as long" thing.

I love these flip flops. I bought a pair in Maui 12 years ago, and I'm still wearing them. I thought it best to get a couple more pairs, just in case I can't find them in the future.

To replace ones bought almost 20 yrs ago for one dollar in Longs, Kailua. My husband, Ben Ringer, and I we're living in Waimanalo. He was a Visiting Prof of Sociology at UH. Those Locals slippahs were my first step in learning & appreciating some of the meaningful traditions and richness of Hawaiian culture. Mahalo ~

This is, of course, a flip-flop so not much to say, right? Well, there's more to it than you might think.Straps are firm and fight. I've had a lot in this style that just sort of randomly slop around but these are firmly affixed. This is a well-constructed shoe.Many flip-flops I've tried have the problem that the side straps are too close to the side of your foot so you end up stepping on this large knot of plastic with every step. Not so here. The straps are in the right place to actually be comfortable.My pair isn't quite broken in yet so there will be a bit of initial discomfort but I don't expect this to last long. Like any sandal, there is a brief breaking in period.Straps are very clear, the only complaint is around the logo on the top that's painted on. Would prefer that just not be there.In summary, great product and well worth the price. Everything you could ask for.*** UPDATE from two years in the future ***Structurally, these are STILL in good shape. I'm impressed. However, the straps have gone rather yellow so I've bought two more pairs.
