20 Virginia Bluebell Roots (Mertensia)

I received the order on date promised. When I got to the mailbox I noticed a pungant oder coming from it.The roots looked vibrant and plump. However they were covered in mold and smelt of soured milk. I promptly planted the wilted extremely stinky roots after a quick rinsing with some fresh luke warm rain water and then rolled the roots in some dry mulch I had on hand. Nothing has grown as of yet. Time will tell.At this price, it would have been nice to have the roots wrapped in a foil package to help avoid the mold and protect the roots from extreme temperatures which I feel promoted the mold and spoilage of the roots.I will try and update this review if and when they come up. If they do not come up or grow next spring, I will be asking the company for a fresh batch next spring.Roland

I planted the rhizomes last year and they are growing beautifully this spring!! I’m so excited, but I think I need to move some of them while it’s still early in the season.

About half the roots were rotted when they arrived. The ten that were plantable came up with a single leaf each so far. :( they have not put out any more leaves . Maybe later in season. Will update as season progresses.
