agent 00Severin
Finally - a magazine dedicated to the wonderful work of John Powers Severin . . . or as he signed some of his work . . . 00Severin. His artwork had humor, physicality and a naturalness. His portrayal of celebrities of the times were spot-on. As a junior in high school, I discovered Cracked Magazine because of the art of JPS and I have followed his work since. I would pick up a copy of CM and race through it to find his work. There would always be a smile on my face when I found it. His work influenced my desire to draw (thank you). Back in the 60s, as a teenage girl, I was smitten by the work of John Severin - may he rest in peace.

Poor Reproduction
I'm a big Severin fan, so I wanted to love this book. But I can't recommend it because the reproduction stinks!

Classic Severin, but not essential
I grew up with Cracked and am a huge fan of Severin's work. While it's nice to have a reason to read some of his great work again, I'd argue there are better ways to do it. For the price of this book you could find a few old issues of Cracked on auctions sites, which almost always have Severin in them. There's not a whole lot here, but if you just want a taste of nostalgia, this will do. It has some of my favourites, like French Forlorn Legion and Baseball Statisticiatic. The book begins with a forward by Mark Arnold, who wrote the awful two-volume Cracked history book/index. This is one of the most self-indulgent forwards I've ever seen. He had two pages to talk about the life and career of John Severin and wastes it talking about himself and regularly plugging his other books. He even goes into detail about how terrible Cracked was before the 80s, in an introduction to a book where every comic was drawn before 1970. Bewildering.

Great book of articles drawn by a great artist
This book contains lots of articles drawn by John Severin. You will see the many talents of this artist through his different styles of drawings. A great book for any fan of Cracked Magazine.
