Upgrading your metal halide fixture is easy
Used these for an old Metal Halide fixture in our office parking lot. Previously there were 4x 1000 watt MH bulbs with ballasts.Since these LED bulbs also use an A39 socket, it was very easy to upgrade! Just remove the old ballasts completely and wire the line voltage directly to the bulb sockets. These LED bulbs can accept 90~300 volts AC so they are pretty versatile. Ours lights were controlled by a timer and we had 220 volt service at the pedestal so no problems there.Just screw them in! They are about 1 1/2" shorter than a 1000 watt MH bulb but the major diameter is almost identical.I did an amp draw measurement on a single LED bulb at 120 volts and it was only 1.4 amps...compare that to a 100 watt tungsten bulb! Very energy efficient. As you can see from the other photos of our parking lot, these LED bulbs do a really fine job. They are actually quite a bit brighter than the 1000 watt bulbs they replaced. Note that these bulbs do have a cooling fan in the end of them. They work fine in a regular fixture that has some air circulation. Like any LED bulb, do not use them in an airtight enclosure...they cannot release heat by convection in a sealed enclosure and you will be sad because they will have a short life and burn up.Since these are available in different wattages, a person could keep their existing outdoor fixtures (save $$) bypass the ballast and enjoy a cost saving on electricity. This is a wonderful product.

Mini Super Nova
Holyyyy cow, is this thing bright! I think this LED light might be too much. When spring/summer arrive it'll easily attract every flying insect within several miles. I live next to a farm so yea... Can't say much for electric usage but it did replace a metal halite bulb, which (in comparison) I'm sure was an energy hog. Although it was easy enough, i did have to bypass/modify the original lamb assembly. As to how long it'll last...can't say yet cause it's only been a week.. I will update about 6 months and then a year from now. It's 4 April 2022, has been over a year since installing, and yet the LED light still going strong! So it was a good purchase. Just wish they made this in a yellow emitting light to cut down on attracting so many flying bugs!

Re-wired my 400w ballast out of the picture. After a month ok, but it does have a fan
Without a light meter, I can't tell you if it's as bright as a 400W MH light, but it certainly is not wise to look at it. It has a small fan to cool the leds, it's slightly louder than the traditional light, but it's not really an issue. After a month of usage, no complaints, and the reduced electric bill and waste-heat is welcomed for growing micro greens for our table.
