I have been using Fisher detectors since the 1980's and .have seen and tested all types of them. Some are great, some are Ok and then some of them are just mediocre. I friend of mine said that their child was wanting to try metal detecting but they didn't want to spend a lot of money and asked what i would suggest. I have been out of the hobby for a few years so after a little research, I found this detector on Amazon. I got it in, put it together and tested it. It performed like the expensive detector that we used years ago but was more sophisticated. I would recommend this for a beginner. A great detector for the price.

Assembled easily, came with battery and clear directions. Took it to Florida beach and found coins and a nice ink pen within minutes. Went deeper than I expected in the sand, I would definitely purchase again.

We purchased this for my son, who loves it. It doesn't have a ton a bells and whistles, but it is a great starter detector. Made of a mix of plastic and metal, this one should last a few years if not longer. My boy can be pretty hard on stuff sometimes. Just in our yard alone, which has many new mini dig sites, he has pocketed about $2 in loose change. He really wants to hit the park later this year after the big car show and see if he can score some bigger loot. Indulge your inner pirate and give this metal detector a try.

Right out of the box, the battery compartment is too loose for the provided 9v battery to make a secure connection. You can waste a lot of time before you figure that out. Had to install felt dot spacers to keep contact and then the battery compartment lid does not provide secure closure.

Great metal detector! Took it right out to an abandoned air base from the 50’s and found parts! Pretty cool! Have also used it at the park while the kids play and found about $2.37. It’s definitely doing the job!
