I'm a property owner and the last thing that I would ever do would be to cut a horizontal slot in any tree to cook a meal with a grill. Not only could you seriously injure the tree by cutting into it, you're also burning out the roots and the flames going up alongside of the tree.

No Scott you do not have to cut a notch in a tree to use the grill. This was only one demonstrated way that you could use the grill. You could pound 4 wooden stakes into the ground at your desired height to place the grill on top of and rake hot coals underneath as another example. You could lay two sections of logs parallel to each other with coals in the center and place the grill on top. There are plenty of videos on You Tube for camping and outdoor survival they give you demonstrations on how to use the grill.

Q: Does this come with the knife,cutting board

No, It only has the 2 Grills and a nice Heavy Duty Canvas Case. The Grills and the Case are both very well built to last. I think you could easily make a light thin cutting board to slip into the case though. Measured and Cut to the same size from Aluminum or Titanium or Food Grade Plastic or Laminated Bamboo. I know they make light thin cutting boards for backpacking, so I would try to find one of those and then cut it down to fit the case. And if any thicker, the cutting board could easily be strapped to the back of the case with Rubber Bands or tied with small thin para cord. A thin Paring knife with a safety sheath could also be slipped into the case. Across the top or inside if the handle was sanded down to fit. Or it could also just strapped to the outside of the case. So in thinking about this, those are a few options. I hope you find these ideas helpful.
