Counterfeit???
UPDATE:Malelo & Co. promptly replaced the tapes they had originally sent me, and I am very happy to report that these tapes work fine! They have the clear plastic housing with lettering embossed into the housing rather than the white paper labels on the original cassettes. The folks at Malelo & Co. are to be commended for responding so quickly!ORIGINAL:I have been using Maxell UR120 tapes for many years, primarily to record my favorite 2-hour long radio program and to play it later in my car. I recorded the tapes on a Denon DRW-585 recorder. These tapes I had bought are much worse than the ones I had bought in past years. There is a very noticeable raspy "artifact" following each word and toward the last few minutes of each side of the tape the audio itself becomes very distorted. I get the same effect playing these tapes back on my Denon recorder in addition to my car. All my previous tapes continue to record and play normally, so I strongly suspect that what I had received was counterfeit. Also, my "good" Maxell tapes are clear plastic with lettering included within the plastic itself. These have white paper stuck onto each side with the lettering in about the same place.I have contacted the supplier, explained what had happened, and they are sending me replacements to try. So stay tuned, I will list here what the results are when I receive them. If good, I will change my rating!

Excellent Quality Blank Audio Cassettes.
MAXELL UR-120 Blank Audio Cassette Tape -4 pack (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Maxell.Maxell is an excellent audio tape, and I have not had any problems with it. Beyond that, both blank and prerecorded audio cassette tapes are getting harder to find as the audio cassette as a recording medium has pretty much faded from consumer use, and is now mainly used as one of the backup mediums in computer centers. Making personal recordings of elderly family members, and recording radio programs, are fast becoming the only consumer uses of audio cassette tapes, which many manufacturers no longer produce. I have bought 120 minute blank tapes at Radio Shack to record two hour episodes of "A Prairie Home Companion" on PBS radio stations for my personal library. The ones that I don't care to save, I record over the next Saturday evening at 6 pm. It is sad to see audio cassettes fade into history, and I have not cared to keep up on the latest gadgets and recording mediums. I will continue to use my audio cassette recorders and my VHS video recorders as long as I can. Five stars.Manufactured and imported by: MAXELL CORPORATION OF AMERICA, New Jersey, U.S.A. / MAXELL CANADA, Concord, ON L4K 2R2; web: maxell.com; Assembled in Indonesia.

120 CASSETTE TAPES ARE OFF THE MARKET
I am in the process of making a master tape of "old" music that I can then put onto a CD. For this I need 60 minutes of recording time and thus a 120 tape. The original music comes from my "ancient" LP collection. I have not made one of these in three years and did not realize that such tapes are apparently out of production. I have used one of the tapes purchased here and it appears to function fine.If you are thinking of doing what I am doing, you must act fast and get your tapes if you don't have tape to spare, if you don't want to record your records directly to the CD. I do not because I want to make up the play list from a number of artists and music styles.

maxell 120 minute cassette tape
My order was shipped quickly and actually arrived ahead of schedule. When I placed the order, I was concerned that only the first tape in each package would be a 120 minute tape and the other three tapes in the sealed package would be 90 minute tapes. That actually happened many times when purchasing a 4 pack of tapes in the conventional stores. However, in this instance, each sealed 4 pack DID contain 4-120 minute blank cassette tapes. Maxell tape is a good brand and perfect for recording music from my CD. I even record digital music (downloaded from Amazon) from CD to cassette and the sound quality is very good. I am very happy with my purchase.

Getting very hard to find
I like the new, factory-like packaging. They work just like they should.
