Fabric Merchants Ponte de Roma Solid White, Fabric by the Yard

Great quality.

I bought this fabric to make a simple, straight skirt. It will work for that. You will not see underwear through it, (white fabric) but you will see shadows. It is a medium weight, tending towards heavy. It barely drapes, and is not soft. Be sure to scroll over the fabric with a close up. It has almost a ribbed look to it, and those ribs stretch horizontally, not vertically. I thought all ponte fabric was softer, and kind of "furry." This is not totally smooth, but smoother than other ponte I have bought.

I have been struggling with sewing this fabric for weeks. The ponte weave and the polyester component makes the fabric "climb" up the sewing needled, resulting in skipped stitches - often leaving over an inch between stitches.Not to mention, a polyester fabric with this tight medium weave hangs nicely but is warm and has absolutely no breathability.Back to the skipped stitches, I tried many solutions, many different needles, different thread types, re-winding the bobbins, rethreading the machine.I found on sewingpatternreviews (dot) com that this is a known issue with heavier polyester ponte knits. The recommendation is to sew this fabric with a serger.The serger will only solve issues sewing seams, it won't solve issues with binding, necklines, hems, etc.I finally found a recommendation to use a walking presser foot together with a very heavy jersey/knit sewing machine needle (90/14 or bigger).I'm slowly slogging through this project, still encountering missed stitches when I sew over multiple layers or when I try to speed the sewing rate.It's a drag.Although this is a gorgeous teal color and it drapes wonderfully, I wouldn't recommend this fabric on my worst enemy.

Nice quality

Since some customers seem happy with their purchase, I think this must me an inventory issue with the fabric merchant. But I received a very cheap looking, polyester, thin non-stretch lining type fabric. It was terrible fabric, and not even close to the description. It is not a ponte for sure, it’s not even a knit. And it was not a nice fabric. I have a pattern ready and was so looking forward to receiving a ponte fabric. So disappointing. I buy all kinds of things from Amazon. But This was my first (and last) experience buying fabric from Amazon.

This beautiful fabric is waiting to become some lounge pants and cardigan. It has a nice weight and beautiful hand to it. I would highly recommend this fabric for pants/cardigan/etc.
