Good value for money
It’s easy to see why lightweight cordless vacuum cleaners have captured the lion’s share of the market in recent years. This isn’t lightweight, nor is it particularly convenient to use (but it does have an extra long 10 metre cable). The extension hose is designed to clip on the side when not in use, but it’s a bit cumbersome so I find it easier to leave it in the cupboard until I need it. I chose this model because I don’t have any stairs and because I’ve been frustrated with previous cordless machines running out of power. The first time I used it I thought it was OK, nothing special. The second time I used it I discovered the carpet brush switch. Wow – I completely filled the dust collection bin in 15 minutes, even though I’d used it and emptied it 2 days earlier. If you’re looking for a traditional upright vacuum cleaner you probably won’t find better value for money than the HU500.

Replacement
I have already written review as you will see below, I have also contacted Hoover who have redirected me to yourselves as this is where my hoover was purchased.I would like a replacement hoover sent as youcan see that by previous comment. I look forward to hearing from you.Good morningI have had this hoover since July 2020 and really like it, both on hard floors +carpet. Unfortunately over the last couple weeks my hoover has started making a rattling noise, have checked it all + can’t seem to find anything, there is no children so no toys lying about.I would appreciate if you could send a replacement hoover as this is best I’ve used in a lot of years and is nice + light for my shoulders.I look forward to hearing from youKind regards Jackie Smith

it works
light and easy to use but tends to veere to the right when using on carpet which can start to hurt one wrist if the person has arthritis, also hose extension a little hard to clip into retaining fixtures and can see a future problem of them breaking if to much fore is used.plenty of electric cable with out keep moving the plug.

slightly dissppointed
Found the machine when the ball started in heavy to deal with unless I held onto the bin handle. Then the 2nd time I used it got to close to the fringe on a carpet and suddenly no fringe and the machine stopped . On checking - the belt had disappeared , so have already had to order new. Then when checking fore spares find you have dropped the cost of machine by £50. Not a good sign for the future.

It's the little things
the hoover does a great job at sucking up dirt although it has one ore two niggly problems. The electric cord has to be unwound one loop at a time, the upper hook does not twist to allow the wire to fall off in one pull. the hoover has a ball effect that allows the head to get into the corners, but the handle and cylinder tend to lean to the right and is heavy to maintain a straight line. The cover on the top of the handle keeps opening and has fallen off when the machine is in use.

Powerful but heavy cleaner
The hoover has great suction power and an incredibly long power cable. It is very easy to manoeuvre around furniture but I found it much heavier than my old cleaner so not so convenient on the stairs

Avoid - Initially very pleased with this well designed cleaner but stopped working after 14 months
14 Months Post Purchase UpdateDespite my initial positivity and regard for the design of this Hoover Cleaner, I have to report after just 14 months of moderate use it has stopped working. I called Hoover and they were not interested. They disavowed that there was a ten years parts warranty on this item and the minimum maintenance call out was £120. So really disappointed. It is clearly cheaply made and will have no long term use-fullness at all. I have subsequently discovered that this is not the Hoover brand of old at all. Rather Hoover and Candy have been acquired by a Chinese company and they both sell very cheaply produced product.I cannot fault Amazon customer service though as after telling them of the products failure 2 months out of warranty they agreed to give me a full refund. I am now researching what to buy next but in the mean time I have fitted new belts to my trusty 7 year old Panasonic cleaner and it is continuing to give great service. My First Review (4 Stars)Needed a replacement for our 7 year old Bagged Panasonic upright that had given great service. Reluctant to switch to a bag-less but the industry has decided we don't want them any more. Don't know why as cleaning out a bag-less is the worst faff off all. Anyway when I ordered this it was new and there were no reviews to go by. I normally look at the 1 and 2 stars first to see if it works after a few weeks or how many send it back. But I liked the way it was described and the features particularly the 10m cable which stops you having to switch plugs when doing the job. Saves a lot of time!Regarding suction the person who said in review it was the worst ever clearly doesn't have a clue. There is a lever on device which allows you to graduate the suction which the manufacturer says may be needed when doing carpets. Also the roller brush has a separate on/off switch which gives you the option to turn it off when doing wooden floors that have been allowed to get very dirty so you don't want the roller brush scraping the dirt on the wooden floor. This seems like a well thought out feature. Myself I find it ok to just leave the roller brush on all the time as I find it best to clean regularly and not let the dirt and grit build up on wooden floors! Isn't that what a vacuum cleaner is for after all!The tilt and swivel feature was a new feature for me and took a couple of weeks to get used to. But having transitioned I really appreciate it. Overall the Hoover is much lighter than previous standups and you can really manoeuvre it into tight places. However as with all modern bag-less cleaners the weight has been moved much higher so initially you feel it on the wrist. So I wouldn't recommend this cleaner for my Granny but myself after three weeks of use my wrist muscles have strengthened up and I don't notice it now.I know two other people who recently bought new cleaners and they opted for the £100 level and the quality and feel by comparison isn't great. This Hoover definitely has the feel of quality and well worth the extra money. I also like the fact that Hoover are offering free replacement parts for 10 years (subject to their engineer fitting). It's good to see a manufacturer standing by their product. I think Hoover are on the Up again! If this machine is still working in say 5 years I will happily upgrade my rating to 5 stars.

new hoover
My 30 year old vacuum cleaner was fading so decided to buy a new Hoover after some research. I did look at the modern cylinder cyclone models but they are generally really expensive. A friend has one and I was not impressed with its capabilities versus high cost. My original vac cleaner had cost me £30 so you can see where I was coming from. Allowing for inflation etc finally settled on this Hoover at £119 and its fine. My 60 sqm flooring is mainly wood planks and dust etc settles in the cracks. Have ca 12 sqm of carpet and a dog with long hair. The hoover handles it with out fuss. Good suction. No prob to empty plastic container. Am well satisfied and would definitely recommend.
