Great book, and it gives the best overall picture ...
Great book, and it gives the best overall picture of how to conduct pasture farming that I have encountered, though I was disappointed by the chapters on how to establish a pasture. There was virtually no information on how to establish pasture from a cleared woodland, and an insufficient amount on the topic of converting crop land (like corn, beans or wheat) to a quality permanent pasture. Granted, there are not many people that want to do this sort of thing, but I think it should be included. Furthermore, Nation is a Southern farmer and doesn't cover, in my opinion, issues particular to central or northern climates adequately. The book suffers from that lack of a well organized table that would give recommendations for most conditions in North America. Also, pastures are not very useful without fencing. There should be at least a chapter on how to select and erect fencing. But it is definitely worth the 15 dollars or so it will cost you if you are serious about pasture farming.

Quality Pasture
Very informative, gives information that you may not be aware of. The more information on pasture management you can read, the longer you can pasture cattle even during the lean times.

Has Everything
This is the most complete book available on the subject. It makes a normally mundane subject fascinating and gives information for sustainable pastures. Excellent

Best book I've read on Pasture!
The best book I have read on pasture! This book is practical and changed the way I manage grass. If you are looking into putting in pasture, trying to improve what you have, or anything else related to livestock on grass practices, this book will save you money and time as it claims. Well worth the price. Take good notes as you read and you'll have a much better picture by the end about what it means to have and how to get "Quality Pasture".

The first book for livestock owners
Today more than ever livestock producers need to be looking at raising their animals on grass instead of grain. With corn prices going up because of the ethanol plants you have no choice but look for better options and grass was a better choice before corn started going up.Allan Nation is the king of "Grass Fed" movement in the US. While one book is not large enough to tell you everything about moving your farm to a grass fed operation this gives you enough information to get started. This book shows you both the "how to" and "how much will it cost" aspect of the grass biz. It also gives you a number of different new business opportunities. My brother gave me this book and it gathered dust for two years. The only complaint that I have (Other than I was dumb for being pi headed and waiting two years to read it) is that he spends a lot of time showing you how you can feed dairy cows on a grass only operation. I realize that he was making the point that if a dairy can make it then sheep, goats, and commercial cattle will have "no problem".

Excellent
It's written in a very straight-forward, easy to understand style. There's tons of useful, practical information. It's a really valuable book, but I wouldn't call it a how-to manual. It seems more geared towards people who have some experience with cattle. If you're just getting into it, this is not a stand-alone guide.
