low quality version, decent story
the version i read was cheap and the quality indicated as much. as for th story and writing, it wasn't as mindblowing as i thought it would be but it is a good commentary on human nature. worth the read for philosophical considerations alone.

Returning to a book of my youth
I recalled reaidng this some time ago, and have seen multiple references to the book recently - the writing and storyline really well crafted - the read interesting - not sure if the book has dated or my view of the world made the read pedestrian

Read this book again as part of a summer reading ...
Read this book again as part of a summer reading book club with my 10 year old. The themes are timeless, and the book still captivates its readers.

The education edition is a bonus
I have always loved this story and remember the black and white film vividly. The educational extra I certainly do not remember from school days. It's great. To start with I couldn't figure out where it was going as it directed the reader back some 500 years, but I suppose we all have 'baggage'. And so too does society from which inspiration for great novels is gleaned.Well done.

Interesting perspective on the human race
This novel provides an interesting perspective of the human race and is very insightful. I found some of the scenes difficult to read given their more graphic nature but the theme and content was very interesting. This version provides background information on the author and the context in which this book was written that I think is very helpful to read. As you read through this book, it is clear that the author was very much influenced by the horrors of World War II and the Jewish Holocaust. I can see why Lord of the Flies is on the list of classics.

Lord Vs Pitcairn
LORD OF THE FLIESAn interesting analogy to the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian escorts on Pitcairn Island. Very interesting, I wonder if Golding had studied the other before writing Lord of the Flies.

boring
this book was rather boring.. the ending was pretty much depicted within the last five pages.. there was no background no reasoning no nothing

Unbearable and compelling at the same time.
Haunting, depressing, but skillfully written. Vivid descriptions of the island, the boys' characters and the way that they behave in a 'society' which gradually breaks down. Written following Golding's experiences in the Second World War and portrays the idea that the capacity for doing evil is innate within all of us. Almost unbearable tragedy, but compelling read.

Modern classic
Golding's story of a group of boys stranded on an island has, rightly, become a classic of modern literature. It's a multi-layered novel that looks at the nature of leadership and democracy, how fear can overcome reason, mob mentality, and much more. In modern terms it's betrayed a little by its 1950s values but it's still a compelling story. This edition provides plenty of added background and context which will assist students studying the book.

Great read!
Great read! One of the books everyone should read from school, but if you missed it, it's never too late. The educational edition has some great background information as well. Well worth it.

Great tale
Finally got round to reading this classic. This edition had lots of extra information at the end...which I promptly ignored. Great tale though
