Good game, probably not meant for travel
Though this is the perfect size for travel, it has so many pieces that are a little difficult to get in the hole that it would likely be a disaster for traveling. The pieces are so small even my little hands have a hard time manipulating them and my husband's big hands hardly have a chance. I loved playing this as a kid, and my husband seems to like it too, just not in this form. We will probably buy it in the regular size and find something else to travel with.

Not the portable version I was used to...
Not necessary a bad game; actually the game itself is as good as it was 30 years ago but the quality of this version is quiet low. The pegs are made of cheap plastic. The box instead to slide open flip sideways; for a kid is a sure way to drop all the pegs all over! If the old version exits somewhere look for it; this one is really not a best of.

Just get the original. The travel version is lame!
We have the old-school original version of this game and the whole family loves it. We got this travel version to take on a road trip, played it one time, and now plan to return it. The "easy grip" pegs are almost impossible to handle--they slip out of large (grown up) and small (kid) fingers, and fall out of the holes. As you're putting one peg in, it's all-too easy to bump the other pegs and knock them out. The colors are different than the original, which might be fine, except the "key pegs" are red & white (not black & white as in the original), and the blue and green code-making pegs are almost the exact same color. Besides all this, the travel version is not that much smaller than the original, so just get that one instead.

Classic Game is fun, travelling design is good, but needs improvements
We love Mastermind and shopped hard to find this travel version. It's a great educational game and I think it stimluates critical and logical thinking in a fun way. The game is terrific, buy it immediately. Now, about this particular package. I have a table top version of Mastermind, too, and this travel version does indeed travel better than that. However, I find that the two separate compartments for the clue pegs versus the colored pegs sometimes failed to keep things separated. The last thing you want when you pull out your game to play is to stop and spend 10 minutes separating the pegs! Also, it's counter-intuitive, but you need to turn the game upside to open it. The peg compartments are located in the lid, opening it right side up will spill everything all over the hotel room or airplane floor!I highly recommend you buy this version of the game for traveling. Complaints are minor and easily overcome.

All great, but for one thing
... but it's a big "but": the colors they picked are just terrible. In dim lighting, red is indistinguishable from pink, and in bright sunshine, it's blue and green you can't tell apart. And I'm not color-blind, and neither is the rest of my family, and we all struggle while playing with this.Change 2 the colors (black / brown, maybe?) and it'd be perfect, but as is... really frustrating. My daughter often ends up in tears because of these oh, so preventable color confusions.

Travel Size MasterMind
I have always liked Master Mind, and my grandchildren and i like to play it. But the travel size is really too narrow. It is hard to put pegs in holes so it is not as much fun as the regular size game to play.

Extremely poor design.
I wanted very much to receive the travel version of Mastermind as I had had a different, smaller, one decades ago. I was so determined to accept flaws in this new design that I consciously ignored the poor reviews that this one had. I should have trusted those negative reviews. This version is worse than I could have imagined. It is not only extremely difficult to place the pegs in the holes, they also pop out when another peg is added. I am astounded how a simple manufactured enjoyable game can become such a disappointment. Frustration instead of joy.

Just get the full-sized one
The pegs in this travel Mastermind are so tiny that adult fingers have a lot of trouble using them. (Or is that just me? Hmm.) Also, there's nothing to actually keep the red/white pegs separate from the colorful ones, so when you close up the game and move it at all (as one may be wont to do, given it is the "to go" version), the pegs get all mixed up.
