The Northern Palm Beaches in the 1960's and 70's.
As someone who grew up with the author in Northern Palm Beach County, this book was a trip down memory lane for me. Growing up during the 1960's and 70's in this place was special, and this book brought back all sorts of memories, from staying out late trick or treating (extremely fun) to playing Marco Polo with my friends in the North Palm Beach Country Club pool (fun) to eating bologna, American cheese and mayo sandwiches that had been sitting in a non-air-conditioned-south-Florida-in-August cubby for 4 hours in grade school before the days of air conditioned classrooms (not at all fun).I would recommend this book to anyone who grew up in South Florida during this period, but especially to those, who like me, now live very far away from this area. The personal vignettes and the lovely photos did a fantastic job of traversing the 40 years and 5,000 miles that separate me from my childhood.

A Light And Enjoyable Read
Very nostalgic for me, even though I am the age of the author's brother and grew up/still live in the north. I enjoy reading about other people's experiences and stories and found this book to be a good break from my usual genre of true crime/mayhem, etc.My personal favorite part of the book was the author's mention of Dark Shadows and the effect it had on those of us who had the privilege of growing up with it (I had a thing for the vampire, as millions of others did). The author needs to revisit Collinwood, I think she will enjoy her stay. Also interesting is the firsthand account of how much Florida has changed and developed. I would enjoy further works from the author on this subject, along with her memories.

a delicious trip back in time.....
No matter where you grew up or in what era, you'll enjoy this book...BUT.... even moreso if you happen to be from the 'boomer' generation and happened to live near the ocean! Each chapter in Berges book is a special memory wrapped up in an anecdote, some with black and white pictures of then and now. Her memories of childhood- back when kids spent their days outdoors- dredged up a lot of my own, i caught myself saying " oh yeahhhhhhhh" quite a few times!"We can see something or hear a certain song, and our mind becomes a magic carpet of time travel and slings usback to relive the past, to go home."

Ruth's personal stories add a new dimension and hulmor to our everyday lliving in Northern Palm Beach County.
I absolutely love this book. As a resident of Northern Palm Beach County and a history buff, walker, photographer, it is great relating to Ruth's stories as I live, work and drive throughout our county. Personal history such as this adds dimension and humor to our everyday living. I highly recommen this book.
