Very Helpful Tool
As a home school mom, I was looking for some help in teaching this novel to my 5th and 6th grade children. I really like the layout, the attention paid to vocabulary and the questions. It has made my work easier. There were extra projects listed and extensions that were helpful (Civil War hygiene, spies, famous scams, etc.) There were pages on Character development and it also included charts for comparing conflicts chapter by chapter. However, the 2 things that would have helped me a bit more were:1. to have the student pages ready to copy and pass out. I had to type the chapter vocabulary and questions in order for the kids to use them.2. to have more of the questions go beyond the knowledge level of learning (from Bloom's taxonomy) especially since this was listed for 6-12 graders. I would not put this past 7th grade and would see most of it was appropriate for 4th and 5th.Lastly, there were quite a few typos (Finch - Fitch; Tallyrand - Tallytand; and others) that should have been caught by an editor. Knowing what I know now, I would still buy it because I needed NOT to have to start from scratch.

Exactly what I was looking for!
With the new Common Core curriculum, I felt like I was starting over. This novel guide was a life saver! It's broken down by chapter with comprehension questions, vocabulary, and extension questions/activities. There are also several research activities, tests, worksheets, and answer keys included.

A thorough novel unit for a great book - students love the story
A thorough novel unit for a great book - students love the story. This book provides an unexpected look at the Civil War, from a ten year old's wild adventure to find his older brother.
