Slightly spicy but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "hot." It's more tangy/sweet with a slight spiciness. It's pretty mild as far as Mexican candy goes - but if you've never had any Mexican candy this could be a shock to your palate. Too much of it might rough up your tongue/roof of your mouth, though.
