Expand Your Sound with the Modes
Tom Kolb has to be one of the most reputable, inventive, and overall best guitar instruction book authors out there. All of his books contain thoroughly explained examples that are MUSICAL! "Modes for Guitar" is no exception. He expertly navigates you through all you need to know about each of the modes of the major scale (as well as some other ones for good measure). Each mode chapter contains a great reference guide that includes the scale patters, common chord progressions, and the modes harmony, an overview of the mode with explanations of its applications, and some very cool examples.I've been playing guitar for 12+ years and would categorize myself as an advanced guitarist, but when I got this book, I was more of an advanced intermediate. I came into this really only knowing the pentatonic minor and major scales, but I cannot say how much this book has expanded my guitar vocabulary. After playing through the examples, I was able to very quickly replicate what I was learning into my own playing. The only gripe I have with this is the Lydian Mode Chapter could have a few better examples, but that's it.I would highly recommend this book to any guitarist looking to learn about the modes or expand your knowledge to them. Some of the examples would be tough for a complete beginner, but I think anyone from an early intermediate to and advanced player will get a lot out of it.

Hoped for much more
Lots of reading and very little applicable exercise. Yeah, you have random riffs in each mode, but that doesn’t really help application or retention.

This is a good book if you are already comfortable with modes
This is a good book if you are already comfortable with modes. I bought this book hoping it would teach me about scales, but it actually teaches how to apply scales to licks. The licks, however, are GREAT!

A theory book on scales/modes.
A clear and concise explanation of Modes/Scales. Like most books from Musicians Institute this is a solid theory book but you should know what you don't know first. You need to know all of the notes on your fret board or the book will quickly become tedious. Movable patterns are the solution.

Pretty Decent Book
This seems to be a very good book for supplemental practice. It contains a lot of information on modes in all varieties but it gives the feeling that it is assumed the reader should already have basic music knowledge. I would recommend this book for those already who already have at least a little knowledge of music and are looking for good practice material.

Modes for Guitar (Private Lessons) (Musicians Institute: Private Lessons)
Modal theory can be tricky at first, but stick with it and gradually you'll begin to see the light. I like this book; in fact, I have several of Tom Kolb's books, and find his straightforward presentation intuitive, and rewarding. Like anything worth doing, it requires some effort; you might not "get it" on the first try, but stick with it and you will get your reward.

Best guitar treatise on modes!
Utterly brilliant! Make sure you have some musical theory under your belt though!

its ok but...
I couldn't find any other info other than I can find on internet. If you are totally uninformed about the modes of major scale, called dorian, phrigian etc. this book could be a good starting point. On the other side, if you already know the relation among modes, where they are derived from, and the positions on guitar neck, then dont waste your money with this and buy any other book

Problems with Kindle Version
The content is OK, it's just the Kindle edition that has problems. The visuals are unclear and it's often impossible to follow the music/tablature. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to get the audio if you use the kindle version.

Modes explained
Modes are always a bug bear with guitarists but once you get your head round them and they are explained properly they are quite easy to understand . This book does exactly that !

Decent Job of Explaining Concepts - Great CD
It's hard to find a good mode book. I think this one does a decent job. I still had to go on YouTube to help work out some of the concepts. There are little excerpts you can play to help engage you with modes. The CD that comes with if helped a lot. Just record your playing over top of the CD with your phone to hear back the function of the modes. No damage to product when I received it.
