Midway Memories

We visited the USS Midway for the second time this summer and continue to be impressed by this museum. I wanted the book so I could learn even more about the men and the ship they served. The book is filled with interesting facts, lots of numbers --like baking 200 loaves of bread every night--and beautiful photography. It is a wonderful momento of our visit.

This is a small, souvenir-type book that you buy in the giftshop after visiting the ship. It is not meant to be the final word about USS Midway. As such, it is an easy read, sort of like a scrap-book of photos and captions.

It would be hard to find one thing that I liked the most. The whole ship was beautiful. There was so much to see and experience. I would not be able to say something that I liked least. Everything was great.

The outer cover surrounding the book itself was ripped. We had to just remove it.

I was stationed on the Midway while on active duty. This brought back a lot of memories. Clear pictures and great commentaries throughout the book. I plan to give these as gifts to others I was stationed with.

The book was ok for the person that never served aboard the Midway, or for the tourist that just wanted a souvenir to take home with them. But for someone that spent years onboard The USS Midway, it lacks interest. I really enjoyed Scott McGaugh's "Midway Magic: An Oral History of America's Legendary Aircraft Carrier" for anyone that really wants to know the Midway in detail.

Smaller/thinner than I expected, but lot's of photos and information. There's a lot of books out there about other ships, but not many about the Midway. I was happy to find this and very satisfied.
