Well made Corben book
I have all the Den TPBs and had a few issues of Mutant World. I think those weren't reproduced well so I was excited to finally get a good quality reprint of Mutant World and Son of Mutant World at a reasonable price. The first part Mutant World isn't as good in quality because it was originally colored and I didn't know what files were available or if it was scanned from a book. This one was fully painted or the manner that Corben originally colored his stories back then. The second part looks like it was colored not that long ago and has crisp ink lines more typical of Corben's later work. I prefer the newer style because his ink lines are beautiful and it focuses more on the story. Son of...is a better story anyways, but both are worth a read.

Master cartoonist near the height of his powers.
According to my research, I've read every single published story that Richard Corben did art for. This collection is among my favorites & in my opinion is one of the best comics ever made. This work is visceral and brash but contains pure undiluted creative sparks. Reading Corben comics will inspire you. Get yours before they are lost to time.

Vintage Corben
Corben has a 'prog rock' approach to comics. He just does what he wants and someone always likes it. The writing is a tad weak, but the vision is choice.

Post apocalyptic madness..
Disclaimer: I got my copy of this book directly from the author through his Kickstarter, but the current seller "Stuart NG books" was chosen by the author as the exclusive (at the time of this review) distributor, so I assume you are getting a truly new copy. The book is beautiful. The older, inferior editions from 30+ years ago can't compare. Not to mention that they do not include the never before collected sequel. Combine that with the hardback cover, quality paper, and coloring overseen and completed by the Corben family, and you have a good book at a fraction of the price used copies go for. If you really want to know before you purchase, just search it on Kickstarter. The page is still up and contains tons of production background and process photos. As far as the content goes, the story is written by Strnad and drawn by Corben, It has an underground flavor popular at the time, so the post-apocalyptic story has a dystopian dark humor and can be a bit exploitative like much of the genre from that time. Think "Road Warrior", "A boy and his dog" etc. What makes this book stand out is the winning combination of a skilled author and an amazing artist who has had his work hanging in the Louvre in Paris. This is early work from both, but, as such, it is filled with raw creativity and a joy of storytelling.Worth reading, and these guys do not stay in print long (look at prior editions), so it is also worth buying as an investment, if that is your thing.

An acquired taste - strictly for Corben's fans
Corben has always been an acquired taste: - his narratives are skimpy and weird, and, frankly, neither interesting, nor particularly creative. But then, I suppose most Corben's funs do not like his comics because of narratives, they like his art. Most American fans might consider his style of modelled rendered figures very distinct and unique, albeit most figures are weird and deformed. That is because most American comic fans are less aware of European comics from 1980's that were common in the Heavy Metal magazine, which, by the way, also published Corben. For example, I find Liberatore's style very similar to Corben's, but just better - better drawn, better rendered, story-wise equally shallow and dumb, but a tiny bit crazier and thus better. This particular book is beautifully published, but its content is only for the Corben's already established hardcore fanbase. Corben newbies might see it for what it actually is - shallow storytelling with weird, somewhat off-putting art. Hope this helps!Cheers!YT
