Brutal photos at the end - a warning.
Lovely first half but if you prefer to see the animals you love not in harm's way, or on fire or dead... This book is not for you. Had bought this for a grandparent for Christmas, good job I checked it! Of course, raising awareness of cruelty to animals is important, but for the sake of a picture book for the coffee table, this one is best avoided. But the photography is amazing.

"A picture is worth a thousand words"
The book is a commemorative portfolio of 100 pictures. The front cover shows a remarkable portrait by Danish wildlife photographer Mogens Trolle of a probosci's monkey which made me smile, I bought the book knowing I was going expecting to enjoy the rest of the work. I was unprepared for the shame, disgust and horror I felt as I turned more pages. An award is given for the storytelling power of just six images. I saw a young bear laying on his back while spinning a fire stick. My tears blotted the view, my stomach cramped, my body felt weighed down with misery. I know that only young creatures can be trained to "entertain." I know that animals sold into the black market are often destined for lonely lives and mental torture. I know that illegal wildlife trade exists. The winner of this award was Paul Hilton U.K/Australia. His images told their story well.

Disappointing
Can the book's small dimensions do the photographs justice? Why are some photos laid out so that the focal point is tucked into the fold of the double page spread?Something about the reproduction of the photos doesn't seem right; the photos appear dull and lifeless to me.Maybe it is a product meant for the tourist trap gift shop at the end of the exhibition?

Horrible book showing animal cruelty
This is such a vile book, the cover leads you to believe that you are buying a book of beautiful animal studies. This awful book includes shocking pictures of shocking animal cruelty with no warning. AVOID

State of book as Amazon employee choose the state, not to do with the contents of the book
This product was purchased as new. In the same delivery/even in the same box, the other 4 items were not broken or damaged (another book, kettle, porcelain butter dish, tin of chocolates). The delivery box was not broken or damaged. This is the fault of the picker who selected the item in this state. I know the book (Wildlife Photographer of the Year) will be great, as per previous years. I will be returning this item because of the state it is in.

Perfect present
We usually go to the exhibition annually at the National History Museum. Unable to go this year so purchased the book to enjoy the photos at home. Well presented book.
