Our Heaven Baby: a book on miscarriage and the hope of Heaven

Wonderful
Our Heaven Baby is full of whimsy and wonder while taking seriously the heartbreak of miscarriage. Told from the perspective of five-year-old Abel, this story takes the reader from learning that Abel’s mommy is going to have a baby, to learning the baby died, and then imagining what it might be like in heaven, where the baby now resides and will one day be reunited with his family. The illustrations are beautiful and the book is easy for children to understand and engage with. The author draws on the true story of her own miscarriage and gives us a window into how she and her family experienced the loss.Simply stated: I love this book. It’s not only an excellent resource for helping children process loss, but it also touches the hearts of its adult readers; reminding us there is hope in the midst of great suffering and reminding us of the freedom we can experience when we view our circumstances with a child-like perspective.

Positive, biblical, helpful book for infant loss
I bought this book when we lost our third child a few hours after birth. Every book I found was either thoroughly depressing with no hint of hope, or said that the sibling turned into an angel (which bothers me as this is not what I believe the Bible teaches). Then I found this book. Even though in the story the mother loses hers via miscarriage, there were enough similarities to make this book an enormous blessing. I am so glad that Leah Vis wrote this so that we could have a story to share with our other two children. The best part is that it is very positive and happy. The story does not shy away from the sadness of the loss, but also chooses to focuses on how fun heaven will be. I love that so much.

Special Book
My husband and I are living through the devastation of losing our full term son as a stillborn. The loss has had an immense impact on our Family. This book has been a blessing in helping our daughter who is 5 years old to understand loss, the peace of heaven, and having a sibling with Jesus. She anticipated her brothers arrival with great joy and this book is helping her (and I) to remember God’s sovereignty in a gentle way. Even though this book is about miscarriage, reading and seeing it through the eyes of a young child’s perspective, is simply just loss whether it is miscarriage or stillbirth. The illustrations are whimsical, and beautiful. The wording is gentle and easy to understand. I appreciate that the book differentiates between Jesus and the angels. This is a special book, I recommend it to anyone experiencing the heartbreak of losing a child. My heart is with you as you are most likely here for a similar reason as ours.

Positive and uplifting
A great change for a loss story book. We have a few other books about miscarriage/stillbirth due to us losing our youngest two years ago, however they tend to be on the sadder side despite being great, truthful books. This book is very positive, simple, and a beautiful story. Definitely recommend this to anyone that has experienced loss, or even for families who haven't as it's a lovely introduction to Heaven and death. Lovely illustrations as well.

Amazing book!
This book is amazing. Having two heaven babies of my own, I feel like this is the final piece I needed in my healing process. The perspective of the book is so spectacular. It made me smile and happy to have the image of my babies in heaven playing. Plus I can give our daughter, who was born between my two heaven babies, an wonderful way to know our babies are happy and waiting for us. Thank you so much for this amazingly written and beautifully illustrated book.

Beautiful book
I wanted a book for my 7 year old after my miscarriage to help explain things to her. This book has beautiful pictures and is honestly about a baby dying, but the focus is more on heaven and what this little boy thinks it is like and the promise of meeting his baby brother one day. I would definitely recommend this book.

Gentle, radiant art and story about miscarriage and heaven
Thoughtful and sweet book walking through miscarriage with children in the family. I loved the book’s simplicity, openness, and trust in a good plan of a good God for these precious babies who were only briefly here before birth and now are with Jesus. I’ve shared it with friends who have grieved their own miscarriages. It’s also a wonderful addition to a family library with its beautiful art and conversation about heaven.
