Q: The directions say this is made to rest directly on the floor. Has anyone done that instead of using 'feet' ?

I am sure it is fine to rest it on the floor of the firebox. When we did that we were not able to see much of the artwork of the plate (behind he firewood grate and the firewood) so we placed it on the fireplace grate with the feet on for added support. we can see the plate much better while we have a fire.

Q: Is seasoning the fireback with small low heat fires recommended for this product to prevent cracking with larger fires?

I didn't,,and it is still in great shape.If it has defect in it it will crack no matter what the biggest thing is to avoid thermal shock (i.e. putting fires out with water)

Q: Since one review said this fireback cracked in half after two months, I am leery. Do you offer a warranty on this item?

I have had mines going on three years. Recommend you must put the fireback 3-6 inches away from your fire (lean fireback against fireplace back wall) depending on size of your fireplace

This is our largest fireback and we recommend using it without feet.
