Extremely accurate on mV
This review is for the $60 HP770D with 40,000 count and NOT the $20 HP770G. The reviews for both are mixed together here but there is a huge difference between them.I needed an extremely accurate multimeter to measure tiny microVolt signals and only a few meters are capable of doing this. I compared the HP770D to an Owon XDM1041, Aneng AN8009, and Zotek ZT-5566SE all of which can read down to 0.001 mV (1 microVolt). With all meters on for at least 30 minutes and leads shorted, the XDM1041 read -0.004mV and the others read 0.000mV but as the signal increased the AN8009 and ZT-5566SE read zero while the HP770D and XDM1041 showed the change. When the signal got above 0.005mV the AN8009 and ZT-5566SE started reading (Aneng is made by Zotek and both display anything below 0.005mV as 0.000mV). After using REL to zero all meters, they agreed with the HP770D but the XDM1041 reading was erratic (even on SLOW scan rate) whereas the HP770D was smooth and steady. I loved the XDM1041's colorful TFT display the best, but the HP770D was the clear winner in what matters... an accurate reading on a clear display that updates without ghosting. The ZT-5566SE had the worst display which ghosts (blurs) the rightmost digits when making adjustments to voltages. The AN8009 had a good LCD display too, but it was not as accurate as the HP770D and XDM1041 as the signal increased. I really wanted the XDM1041 to win since it was loaded with features, but it just couldn't match the HP770D for what mattered... accuracy on low voltage signals. For example the XDM1041 has 3 scan speeds but SLOW is the only one that is useable. And it has an AVERAGE function but it can't be used when REL is active so it was useless on mV readings. So the HP770D is the only meter that does what I need. My needs are unique and the other DMM's are good meters, just not good for my unique application.EDIT: I have since acquired a very accurate Fluke 8842A benchtop multimeter. On the mV range it agrees exactly with the HP770D. However on the Volt ranges the HP770D reads slightly low... at 10.000V it reads 9.990V which is not too bad.

A lot of multimeter for a little money.
The Holdpeak Model 770G multimeter arrives complete with two probes of fair quality, a temperature probe, basic instructions, AA batteries, and a synthetic fabric zip-up carrying case in a nice, sturdy box. Upon examination, I noted the surprisingly high quality of construction, considering the price of the device. After using the multimeter, I can say that it offers quick, accurate readings, and the auto-ranging feature is nearly invisible, as it should be. Just select the quantity you'll be measuring on the traditional rotary dial, and the meter automatically selects the proper units of measure. Please note that temperature is only available in Celsius. The only negative thing I have to say regarding the device is that the NCV (non-contact voltage) reading is sketchy, at best. It's difficult to find the sweet spot, and moving it up and down while trying to locate the active measurement area causes false readings, even in a dead line. A small gripe, considering the price. An excellent purchase, and I highly recommend the device.

Amazing surprises!
The media could not be loaded. This meter was a pleasant surprise for me (I'm the husband here using her account)! The first thing that impressed me was the automatic backlighting that responds to changes in light level. How cool is that? I got it because it scales from 4V to 40V to 400V etc because we live in an off-grid solar powered home that operates off a 24V battery bank. So NOW I can get 24.467V instead of 24.5V!! Almost every other meter scales from 2V, 20V, 200V, etc and so I lose a digit when I go past 20V, grrrr! Then I was surprised again by the innovative interlock system for measuring current. You literally cannot put the red test lead into the wrong hole on the meter! If you want amps, you have to pull out the red lead and then you can turn to Amps and put the lead in the correct hole! Gotta love that! And then there is the mV scale! I did not know that even existed! So now I can measure the voltage across the Deltec 550A/50mV shunt to measure the battery current!! The only thing is I suspect it is not very accurate. I think there is an offset problem and the slope of the "voltage in" to "voltage out" is not unity. I have compared the reading with a number of "clamp-on" DC ammeters that have pretty good agreement with each other and with the HP-770D at currents less than about 5 Amps but when you get up into the 50 to 70 Amp range, the 770D is reading 90 Amps (using the 770D mV scale across the Deltec 500A/50mV shunt) while the clamp-ons are reading about 70 Amps. But beyond that, I highly recommend this screaming deal and innovative design! As of 2/7/2019, it is still working great!! Purchased 10/25/16.

I wanted a 40000 count meter and this meets my needs
I have a number of DVMs, and one of my older ones failed, so I wanted to replace it. The extended range that this DVM provides is useful and is a good feature. It seems to be accurate when compared to my DC voltage standards. One advertised "feature" is NCV (non-contact voltage detection). If you need this feature -- look elsewhere. I simply does NOT work for me.Also, the backlight LED is rather anemic; the backlight is better than nothing. The LCD field of view is eh-OK. Not great, but not awful. At the end of the day, I give this DVM slightly better than a passing grade.

Dead on arrival
It seems to have all of the functions I need listed but I can't verify one way or the other seeing as when I received the package the meter had a bad fuse. Hopefully I will be able to replace the fuse and solve the issue but as of now it doesn't work and I'm disappointed that I received it not working

Great well made meter and some nice touches added for the money
I bought this based on Jamie B's review...mainly because he went into great detail of what it could do and it was perfect for my needs..I have actually bought this device and it was NOT a gift or given to me for an unbiased review. When I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised to see how well made it was...good sturdy plastic and the actual leads were of a nice flexible nature...The carry bag was a little on the thin side but functional to carry all the leads and the device itself...I say leads because it also double as a temperature meter up to 1000 degrees according to the instructions...which by the way were very easy to follow...simple, but informative. Read Jamie B's review for a more detailed description but I can back up his review without hesitation as to how good this device is...I'm no electrician by any means and there are measurements this will do that I will never use..but I know they are there should I ever need them..I particularly liked the auto light which was nice and bright in darker situations and the screen was a large one which made readings easy to read. The other thing I liked about the meter was using AA batteries and not the usual 9 volt. this is not only a cost saving but you can get AA's from just about anywhere..plus the fuses are inside the battery cover too making it easy should you blow one...mind you...this should be hard to do due to the changeable cover slots as you adjust the settings telling you where to put the leads correctly...they are all colour coded also.I put it to test right away and it worked very smoothly giving me instant reading...I can't speak for accuracy but I'm sure it's close enough for most people..Like others mentioned this is a larger device to some others out there...but I personally wouldn't call it huge...In fact it's smaller then the one I've just retired, which did way less then this model....Oh..I almost forgot...it also has the ability of Non contact electrical search...You simply turn it to any position on the V side and hold down the NCV button then just scan it over the wall or any cable you might suspect power running behind or through it...Like a stud finder but this detects electricity...this was a bonus for me too. All in all... if your looking for a reasonably priced and well spec'd voltage meter look no further...yes there are cheaper and smaller but this is a little gem.

Replacement Meter Good
REVISED REVIEW---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Having posted the review below and having received a refund from Amazon, I got an email from HOLDPEAK, apologising for the bad shopping experience, telling me that the issues had been passed on to the technical dept and immediately offering me a replacement free of charge. Indeed the replacement 770G was received very quickly (Full marks for Customer Service!). I have to say, having checked it out pretty thoroughly, it has NONE of the problems I highlighted in my review. All the functions work well (although the DC voltage is a couple of MilliVolts out when checking against a precision voltage reference). In summary I believe this meter, at this price to a decent device for the hobbyist or home user and have raised my star marking accordingly. Let's hope they keep up the quality assurance.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OLD REVIEWThis is, by far, the worst Multimeter I have ever purchased. Inserted the 2 AA batteries on arrival (shrink wrapped zinc chloride AAs are provided). I noticed that two of the battery terminals were corroded (see example photo). I tried with fresh Alkaline AA batteries to no avail. The multimeter however was dead! Furthermore, the mechanical probe shutters also appear to be jammed in one position making the meter useless even if there was any power! I checked fuses (ironically with an old £5 multimeter that was the nearest to hand) and they were fine. So this is a non-functional meter straight out of the box. Avoid this like the plague unless you want to spend time repackaging to return to Amazon. Incidentally Amazon returns process seems very efficient (well done Amazon) but it is very frustrating having to go the the returns process and having to wait up to 7 days after they receive item back to get a refund.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the price it is accurate and very well designed
Bought this to replace my 30yr old draper. So far found it is excellent. 4 star because instructions are not in clear black print, and the audible buzzer is loosing it's voice.

poor quality meter
This meter failed to work , perhaps I was just un lucky , however I also noted that the selection dial mechanism felt of poor quality , on rotation there was a kind of soft clip feel, rather then a positive click on select , I've used many meters of this price range & I must say that this unit came bottom of the list , the probes felt light & cheap too , I wasn't expecting much for the cost , nevertheless there are other meters out there that are far better quality for this price range .

Look no further for a budget DMM
Replacement for my trusty 25 year old Fluke. I am retired and don't require a professional super-accurate meter, but this is superb value and appears to do the job as well as other devices costing a lot more.
