A natural, undiluted essential oil
I have previously used Melaleuca quinquenervia essential oil to successfully treat insect bites, though I also know friends who have used it to reduce acne outbreaks. It can also help relieve pain from cuts and burns. The reason I first started to use this oil, was after finding out that it's derived from the paperbark tree. I spent a number of years living in the Australian outback, and became aware of the health properties of the evergreen paperbark tree - from which this oil originates. The aborigines use various parts of this particular tree to make 'bush medicine' - they make up a brew to treat colds, headaches and rheumatism. Applied to the skin in its essential oil form, it helps to treat skin conditions such as acne, boils, burns, cuts, insect bites.Various bottle sizes are available in this Greenwood brand, ranging from 5ml up to 630ml. I received the 15ml bottle, which although small contains around 240 drops. This means that for daily facial care use you get up to seven weeks supply. For daily body care use, the 15ml bottle should last for just over three weeks. Of course, its important to dilute your essential oil in 30ml of carrier oil before use - and follow the manufactures guidelines on dosage. A plastic dropper is included to measure out the drops. Highly recommended.

Not the best smelling essential oil but does seem to help with congestion etc.
I love essential oils and use them in many different ways … using them in aroma diffusers and in essential oil burners around the home. I also add a few drops of essential oils to body lotions, shampoos, conditioners, hand creams and even washing up liquid and fabric softeners. In fact I use them in too many ways to list here … suffice to say I get through a lot of oils. Essential oils come in varying degrees of purity and some of the cheaper ones are not worth buying as they contain almost no healing properties. I received a 15ml bottle of Niaouli Essential Oil to review produced by a company called Greenwood. The bottle looks to be made from good quality dark amber glass which should protect the essential oil from deteriorating from ultra violet light. The bottle lid is leak free and the oil is dispensed a drop at a time through the integrated dropper nozzle inside the neck of the bottle.Niaouli essential oil isn't the best smelling essential oil out there it is very camphorous, earthy and can be a bit cloying … however as a therapeutic oil it's said to be great for use in respiratory conditions, skin infections and acne.I have severe COPD in the form of fixed airways disease and I have been using this Niaouli essential oil for a few weeks every evening in a diffuser hoping it will reduce inflammation and help improve my breathing. I also add Eucalyptus essential oil into the mix to improve the scent.Does it work? Well it certainly seems to help with congestion and also makes my cough more productive.I hope you found my review helpful.

A few drops are great in the bath to clear nose, sinuses and head.
The Niaouli oil arrived boxed. The bottle comes with a bung for delivery, but a dropper topper attachment is in the box. It does not have a childproof top, so the bottle can be opened easily.Latin name: Melaleuca viridiflora. Common names: Bottlebush, Paperbark, and Paperbark Tea Tree. A small evergreen tree with white papery bark, native to Northern Australia and New Guinea. It comes from the same botanical family, the Myrtaceae, as the Tea Tree and they both have very similar properties and uses. The main difference is Niaouli is milder than Tea Tree and can be used on more sensitive skin when properly diluted. Niaouli is also related to the Eucalyptus. The Niaouli leaves and bark were commonly used by indigenous Aboriginal Australians for various purposes including teas, basketmaking, and flavoring. Historically, it was also used in New Caledonia and the French Pacific Islands. Centuries ago, Aboriginal newborn babies were wrapped in the bark of the Niaouli to provide them with strength and protection.Niaouli essential oil is produced through steam distillation of the young leaves and twigs. The oil is regarded as having a slightly sweet, fresh, camphoraceous smell, with balsamic and woody aromas.Chemical analysis: The composition of the oil varies according to batch and from country to country:Terpene oxides (1,8-cineol: 38 to 48%). Monoterpenols, sesquiterpenols including viridiflorol (6 to 15%). Monoterpenes (alpha and beta-pinene, limonene) that are eliminated to obtain "purified" oil. This composition corresponds to the essential oil from Madagascar, NB: that from New Caledonia is different, consisting mainly of sesquiterpenols (65 to 70%) and monoterpenols (approximately 20%).Uses:For the treatment and allieviation of: Bronchitis, Respiratory Tract Disorders, Influenza, Sinus Congestion, Sore Throats, Catarrh, Coughs, Colds, Uterine Infections, Rheumatism, Muscular Injury, Rashes, Pimples, Acne, Herpes, Wounds, Cuts, Grazes, Insect Repellent. The oil must be diluted into a carrier oil if it is going to be applied to the skin or hair. This is a great essential oil, it smells more of peppermint than tea tree. I have added ten drops to a burner, my living room, smells wonderful. I have also used in in sweet almond oil for a body massage. I use a lot of tea tree oil around the home in diffusers and burners as a member of the household has a bad chest, and feels the tea tree in the air helps. I like that this oil has similar properties but is more suitable for people with sensitive skin. Niaouli is used as an anti-septic, anti-fungal anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent. Niaouli helps to reduce the duration of colds and flu while offering relief from sore throats, stuffy and runny noses and coughs. Inhaling Niaouli oil in a steam bath can quickly open sinus passages to improve congested breathing. I have added 2 drops to a tissue, which is lovely to inhale when the nose is blocked. It a pleasant addition to a soothing massage oil, or diffuser blend. It has the ability to heal wounds, Niaouli Oil has powerful cicatrising properties. Whether you’re looking to minimize the appearance of scars or other blemishes, it can help to regenerate skin cells and tissues and thus heal skin imperfections. It stimulates blood circulation and hormonal secretion as well as the digestive system to promote improved bodily functioning. It boosts the respiratory system: as both an expectorant and decongestant. Niaouli relieves the pain of sunburn especially when combined with Lavender oil as an excellent anti-inflammatory treatment.I have added 5 drops again in a carrier oil along with 2 drops of lavender and 2 drops of eucalyptus to my bath. Great for clearing the nose and head as the oil is inhaled through the aromatic steam, as well as being absorbed by the skin. It worked well for my sinuses. Many of the Greenwood oils I have used do not have directions for use on the box or bottle, but you can find directions for use online. This essential oil is a little more expensive than what I normally pay for Tea Tree, but the quality is excellent so I feel it is good value for money. A great essential oil to have in your collection of oils.

Smellsa bit like tea tree
I thought this was going to be neroli spelled a different way but it turns out to be closer to tea tree.Like the other Greenwood oils this comes ina cardboard outer pack. The product is housed ina brown glass bottle which comes sealed with a plastic stopper which you change for the usual essential oil dropper. The screw-top lid is not childproof so keep away from children. This is an essential oil so do NOT use this neat on your skin, dilute it in a carrier oil. Suggested dilutions can be found in the product description. This oil has a fresh aroma, similar to Tea Tree. It is a healing, stimulating and refreshing oil that is beneficial for the immune system, skin problems and respiratory ailments.I find if I am starting a cold that a few drops in my bath help to clear my nose. I have also added it to water ina steamer or in an oil burner and that is a nice uplifting aroma as well as one that clears the nasal passages.Be very careful to keep this away from eyes or other sensitive parts as it stings!
