My daughter's personality is quite similar to feisty Merida, Princess of DunBroch, so we greatly anticipated the release of the books in this series. We were elated to find the first book much more exciting and well-written than the current Frozen series that we've repeatedly tried to tolerate. This author truly captures the spirit of the characters and creates drama, suspense, and humor that keeps the plot moving at a quick pace. The adventure is mystery-filled and full of fun!This second book is as wonderful as the first, and expands on Merida's understanding of "friendship" and her responsibilities as a princess. Like all young girls unwilling to accept stereotypical restrictions placed on "proper young ladies", Merida must walk a fine line of acting on impulse and making careful choices. All the while, remaining grounded by the love of her family.Fine read for young girls who like a little spice with their sugar!Can't wait for book number three!!!

Very well written. I really enjoy knowing I'm not going to be reading a copy of the movie. This is a wonderful original story based on the characters from the movie.

I have two redheads for daughters, that said, this book speaks to my oldest. In this second book Merida learns more about friendship. It still features that spunky Scott that we learned to admire in the movie Brave, but she has to learn how to be a little bit softer in her approach to others. We really enjoyed reading the book together. Merida felt real. The climax felt a little bit off, we agreed, but it still was fulfilling. If you're looking for a fun, fast read to little readers (K-3) then this book will fit in great.
