A charming memoir
Even if you're not a Pink Floyd fan, this is an interesting memoir. Drummer Nick Mason's writing style is charming and unique, and he writes as an unjudgmental observer as much as a participant in the amazing and chaotic journey Pink Floyd had. He seems to have had a mostly splendid time, and this is a splendid read.

Read while drinking at your own risk
Have read this multiple times and each time tidbits reach out and make you go back and reread to make sure I you got it right. Given that Roger's promised expose has yet to grace us reminding that who was Pink and who were "the muffins" and the shelved Storm cowrite from the Animals American tour never seeing light of day, there is truly and exceptionally unfortunate two "kind of" bios of Floyd with the other bio being a written history of self discovery and awareness that just so happened to timeline within the main Floyd era.Nick's wit is on full display and if I had a question to ask first I think it would be why no lyrics?? As ships cook Nick sure as heck could have interjected similar witty lines of commentary that Roger did especially like in echos.God bless you Nick, David, Richard and yes Roger for providing a lifeline that kept and still keeps uncounted millions still trying to live in this world.Rev b

Well-researched
I enjoy that he omitted his personal life entirely. Nowhere did he mention his childhood, upbringing nor familial life.

Easy to read first hand account of one of the world’s greatest bands
Interesting and informative 50+ year first hand account of one of my all time favorite bands. Clearly written narrative with a reasonable dose of wry humor (efficiently loaded trucks for the tour can yield cost savings to pay for 12 crew parties, or an hour with a lawyer). This is not a hedonistic tale of sex drugs and rock & roll. Rather, it is heavy on matters legal, financial and logistical. Heavy on the early years (you get 100 pages in before meeting David Gilmour), and the cast of characters comes at rapid pace (a summary list of key players would have been helpful).Highly recommended for Floyd fans or anyone interested in a balanced account of the creative and business sides a major band.

Good But Could Have Used Editing
Parts were a great inside into the music. But it seems lik 25% was devotd to equipment and crew. Do we need to know th history of thei lighting and crew? I liked the parts about Syd and 1970s albums. How often do you get a chance to peak behind the making of Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here? That was fascinating stuff.

Witty, Informative History of PF
This book is absolutely essential for any hardcore Pink Floyd fans. From the moment I picked it up I enjoyed it to the end. Not only is it an informative glimpse into the real history of the band, but Nick Mason tells it with such humor and wit it’s truly hard to put down. Absolutely loved every second of it! I also think the cover design is really awesome and the photos inside are great.

Extraordinary Account
When someone sets out to write the history of a band they formed part of, their account is often challenged by other members, so it proved in Nick Mason's case. He called in friends far and wide to relate stories and anecdotes when he had a 'momentary lapse of memory'.What Mason presents is a far cry from the usual 'tell all' and airing of dirty laundry. His is a respectful account which deals more with the music than the 'politics'. This is not to say he avoids the issues that did arise (Syd Barrett, Waters/Gilmour feud and Rick Wright's ousting) but he does so with an even-handedness and made sure each member of the band had the opportunity to correct his memory and account of events. It is however, the music that mattered most and the making of that music. He delves in detail regarding the effects and sounds they achieved, often relating how they were achieved. It makes for fascinating reading when coupled with his dry and erudite wit.I picked up a copy after a face book friend kept posting his impressions as he read through. I could only agree that this is an extraordinary account of an extraordinary band and thankfully free of boastful conquests or embarrassing stories.Pink Floyd remains, for many, the pinnacle of musical achievement and any attending their concerts would have enjoyed the meticulous detail in presenting their complex music. I attended the Earls Court "Wall" concert (the most spectacular show I have ever seen) and saw them again in Adelaide during the 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' tour. Also privileged to see Roger Waters present 'The Wall' in Melbourne during his solo world tour. The detail and work that went into these shows is dealt with by Mason but in a telling aside he did remark that from his position he saw very little of the spectacle and was amazed how good it looked from 'out front' when he stumbled in as the crew was running through their paces.A very entertaining and informative account and highly recommended.

Nickの no fictitious writing!
