It's hard to find inexpensive tools to work on stringed instruments, especially small files. These can be used to smooth out the slots in guitar, mandolin, etc. nuts and saddles. They are essentially thin stainless steel rods with ridged sides. I don't think that they can cut harder materials like bone or Tusq very well, but if you make an initial slot with a saw, they can smooth the bottom of the cut somewhat.

Bought this to clean the holes of a wok burner. They tend to get clogged. This comes in various diameter and the length makes it easy to clean the burner tips.
