Rear Shocks for 2001 29' RV on Ford E450 chassis.
I had previously installed Bilstein shocks on the front axle and now was installing the rear shocks. The first issue was removing the nut from the top of each OEM shock. I had a lot of access to the left (driver's side) but the right side was mostly obstructed by the Framework of the RV body that was placed on the chassis.I jacked up the right rear corner lifting the body frame off of the rear axle. Finally enough pressure on the shock was relieved that I could remove the bottom bolt, freeing the shock. I got a wrench on top of the nut and simply turned the shock to remove. Installing the right side meant once I got the nut started, I could only turn the nut a few degrees. I had already mounted the bottom of the shock, so twisted the shock a few degrees, re-positioned the wrench, turned the shock back, rinse and repeat. The whole job was made more difficult as not being able to see what was happening at the top of the shock. The left shock was much easier to mount, except I ran out of jack lifting the chassis and had to use a lever to get the shock to retract far enough to finally get the hole to line up with the mounting bracket at the bottom. I spent 5-6 hours doing this, so again if you can find a mechanic to quote you a fair price for this job, it might be worth the cost.On the test drive I noticed even more control. I used to have considerable sway especially when turning sharp from a stop. First the RV would lean heavy the opposite way of the turn, and once the turn ended, lean back over the direction of the turn. I also noticed much less resistance in the old 20 year old shocks once I had them off compared to the Bilsteins. There was no outward sign of oil leaks and failure.I am glad I upgraded all four shocks to Bilsteins. The RV has a much safer feel now when driving.

Easy install.
installed myself in E450 RV (rear). Really can't tell on a recent 3000+ trip if they helped much over the original (35000 mile) shocks. Only issue if doing yourself while vehicle is on the ground, is getting the lower mount in -- you need to be very strong and very coordinated at the same time, or figure out a way to raise the frame about 3 inches so you can get the mount into the fixture to install the bolt. I inflated the RV rear airbags all the way to max for about 1.5 inches and then used an inexpensive hydraulic bottle jack to raise it up more until I could get the bolt in. Instructions showed some torque settings, but don't use on the top of this shock, just tighten the lock nut until the bushing start to bulge - don't tighten so that they go beyond the diameter of the washer. I did torque the lower bolt. Recommend looking at a youtube video on this if you need to see how.

Love my Bilstein's!
I replaced the 20 year old Bilstein shocks on my class c motor home and I was able to notice a smoother ride with these when compared to the old ones. I love these shocks and will choose them again for my next project.
