Alex (Hess) is a psychopath and his friend Ricky (Giovanni L Radice) an easily led simpleton. When the unlikely pair are invited to an upscale house party where they are ridiculed by their debauched young hosts, Alex decides that he and his straight edged razor deserve some fun. Together the two streetwise punks take the unprepared partygoers on a journey of violence, debasement and forced sex. And that's before events turn really nasty... Deodato's unwavering gritty direction keeps the tension unbearably tight and the psychological nuances of Hess and Radice's powerhouse performances deliver uncomfortably challenging scenes so close to the bone that this originally banned Video Nasty remains one of the most contentious pictures in UK censorship history. ...House on the Edge of the Park (1980) ( La casa sperduta nel parco ) ( The House at the Edge of the Park )

Not bad
If you've seen horror flicks like the original "Last House on the Left" (1972) and "I Spit on your Grave" (1978), then this is a solid entry in that genre of horror.

A gory, but definitive classic!
Like the similar 'Last House on the Left', you're either going to love this film, or hate it with a passion - there's no down the middle. Director Ruggero Deodato takes rape, suffering and violence to near-unbearable extremes, almost trying to out-do the terrors we witnessed in 'Cannibal Holocaust'.This is only going to appeal to a certain crowd, and that crowd involves any serious horror fans, as well as fans of cult exploitation. Often, 'House on the Edge of the Park' is grim, unsettling and horridly disturbing. All in all, it actually does it's job as a horror film - it shocks, chills and disturbs in equal measure, with enough blood-letting to keep many gore fans happy. The story follows the psychotic rapist Alex (an outstanding performance by David Hess, no matter how the film pans out), who takes his mentally-challenged friend Ricky (John Morghen) to a posh party. After being mistreated by the upper-class yuppies, Alex eventually reaches boiling point, and the party results in a tense and terrifying hostage situation, in which anyone can drop.'House on the Edge of the Park' is an interesting and sometimes brilliant work, which has the disadvantage of not being everyones cup of tea. The violence is extreme, and uncomfortable to watch. In most respects, this isn't a mainstream film, since it's sleazy feel often makes it hard to sit through. At the end of the day, this film does have it's flaws, but it doesn't stop it from being a classic of the genre. It's essentially a rip-off of 'Last House on the Left', but if you liked Craven's film, you'll know doubt like this too.At least give it a try, since there are worse films out there...Regards,D.J. Total And Absolute Trash
With the release of The Last House On The Left, the Italian knockoff industry started churning out ripoffs, normally focused on the sadism with heavy doses of nudity. Directed by Ruggero Deodato, who had already established himself as an exploitation giant constantly pushing the boundaries of what could be shown explicitly on screen, House On The Edge Of The Park is 91 minutes of domestic torture and sexual violence as two lowlifes take a small party of strangers hostage. That’s it; not much more to the plot. David Hess, also somebody who had established himself as a force in exploitation films like Last House On The Left, is let loose to chew up everything in the scene and it’s quite noticeable when he’s not on screen. The soundtrack is quite inappropriate, with fun disco songs playing during moments of uncomfortable violence, but that just adds to the trashiness of the film as a whole. Let’s face it: if you’re interested in watching this, you already have an idea of what you’re getting into and the film does not fail to deliver. If you are squeamish, especially over sexual assault, stay as far away as possible, but again, if you’re thinking about watching this film, you know what you’re getting into. A True Video Nasty

"Such A Terrible Horror Film!"
I like David Hess in "The Last House On The Left" better than this one. Terrible storyline. Terrible acting too. 👎👎

Mean Movie
WARNING: This movie is a very graphic in it's display of antisocial behavior, including rape and murder without being gory. The story of a criminal preying on a family has been done many times but never this intense or realistic and the ending has never divided audiences like this one. What elevates this film from all the others it's ability to cause the viewer to question the psychology and morals of individuals and our classes of society. Strip away the elegance of the rich and what is left is very ugly. Recommended for Deodato fans, others be warned this is one realistic, intense, mean movie. The pacing, story and intensity are far superior to the weaker, more viewer friendly Last House on the Left. The cover art is misleading. There is nothing supernatural at all in this film. What is far more frightening is what people can do to each other and this film shows that which naturally is too intense for many viewers. If you liked Cannibal Holocaust not for the gore but because it elicited an emotional response and left you with something psychological to think about you will enjoy this.

Bit Difficult to watch but Amazing Transfer and Release
88 Films have done another brilliant job by giving this classic nasty the 4K treatment. The House on the Edge of the Park has finally been unleashed fully uncut in the UK for the first time along with a great range of extras. The film follows a group of criminals who infiltrate a fancy party and start tormenting the guests with unspeakable acts of violence. Essentially it's an Italian rip off of The Last House on the Left but nastier. The film itself is very tough to watch at times, but if you were able to handle Last House than you should be able to handle Edge of the Park. Whilst not the pleasantest of films, it looks amazing in 4K and the release is great, would recommend it to any Video Nasty collector.

House On The Edge Of Sleazyness
After fixing a young couples car, two men -Alex & Ricky- are invited to there party, once there however Alex attacks his hosts with a cutthroat razor and holds them captive, whilst also abusing his female hosts.Ruggerro Deotado's 1980 revenge thriller is an unflinching look in the mind of a psychopath. David Hess plays the unhinged Alex and really does deliver a strong and memorable performance, as does the rest of the relatively small cast. He handles the most shocking (& some would say controversial) scene in the film chillingly, slashing the young Cindy character with the razor whilst she's naked. The film builds it's tension with a lot of skill, from the opening scene of Alex raping & killing a young woman, to him taking the razor with him to the party you're never quite sure what he'll do or could do and that does keep you o the edge of your seat. The final revelation on first viewing is very good and fairly unexpected and the scene that follows is handled and directed very well. There are a few downsides to the film however, apart from the rather slow and easily led Ricky (played well by Giovanni Lombardo Radice) none of the characters are all that likable, although the finale does explain a lot you don't know that in the rest of the film, and you do struggle to empathise given their situation. The Cindy scene is another problem, the fact they got a very young looking actress to play the part makes what happens to her feel very uncomfortable and realistic, it does add to the tension but it is a tough watch. That's arguably the movies biggest issue the sleazy, exploitative feel, although that doesn't make it a bad film it does make it a sometimes uneasy one to get through.Rejected on its first UK cinema release it later become a video nasty and all subsequent UK releases have been cut, so to see a full uncut version & if you want to watch the film the full strength picture is what you should see, better to get a DVD release from abroad.
